The best bit about having a puppy! Play is not only great fun for you and your puppy; it’s also an important part of their development. Play helps your puppy:
- Stay happy and healthy, it’s great exercise and helps keep stress levels low
- Learn doggy communication skills
- Learn about the world, what happens when they pounce on a ball!
- Establish a strong bond with their owner
Walk into any pet shop or your local Vets4Pets practice and you’ll find an array of fun toys for your puppy including chew toys, interactive toys, tug toys, plush toys and boredom breakers. Experiment with your puppy to see what they enjoy, there is nothing better than seeing a puppy enjoying themselves!
As your puppy goes through the various stages of development you may find they enjoy different games. Make sure your puppy’s toys are safe and appropriate to their size, toys should be large enough so they can’t be swallowed but small enough to carry around.
Puppies have short attention spans and get tired easily so lots of short play times will help keep your puppy entertained and stop them getting too tired. There are lots of games you can play with you puppy; such as fetch, tug of war and hide and seek. Your only limit is your imagination!
