Meet the Kingswood Vet Team

Catherine Spence JVP kingswood

Catherine Spence

Veterinary Surgeon and Partner Owner

After qualifying from Bristol University, I have worked in several practices in Berkshire. Although I started my career in a mixed farm and companion animal practice, I soon realised that my main interest was in treating cats, dogs and other small animals.

When I was offered the chance to set up my own surgery with Vets4Pets in Kingswood I leapt at the opportunity to return to Bristol. I have loved meeting our new clients and their varied pets, and I am really impressed at how friendly everyone is around here.

I live locally with my husband, Simon, our lovely, but demanding, cat called Ash, a slightly nutty Collie cross called Spindle and three very mischievous Degus. We have two sons who live independent lives but come and visit us from time to time! We spend as much of our free time as possible walking in the local countryside.

My main professional interest is in medicine, and I have recently completed a GP certificate in small animal medicine which has helped me to keep up to date with current thinking. However, I enjoy all aspect of this wonderfully varied job.

Veterinary Surgeon

After graduating from Bristol University, I couldn't bring myself to leave this brilliant city and it's people. I joined the team in July 2018 and very quickly felt like part of the Kingswood family!

My particular interests lie within ophthalmology and dentistry. I also have a huge soft spot for cats and am looking forward to helping the practice gain cat friendly status.

Outside of work I am a huge foodie and am currently trying to work my way through the amazing restaurant scene in Bristol! I have also recently started to attend art classes and spend much of my free time reading and swimming.

Registered Veterinary Nurse

I  have lived and worked in and around Bristol all my life and love living here! I have grown up in a house that has always had pets from guinea pigs, cats and dogs all the way up to horses! I qualified from Langford Vet School in 2011 and have been working in small animal practice since. The parts of my job I enjoy the most is feline nursing (or mini-tiger taming!), greeting all the gorgeous, fluffy four-legged pets that come in to see us and medical inpatient care, in particular, elderly patients.

At the moment I have four awesome fish and a very special cat called Smidge. My favourite breed of dog is dachshunds (sausage dog) and in my free time I am a keen cake maker and love creating things with my sewing machine.

Registered Veterinary Nurse

I started at Kingswood Vets4Pets not so long ago, so many of you may have already met me whilst visiting with your pets! I studied Veterinary Nursing at Hartpury College in Gloucester and have graduated with a honours degree, which I am very proud of!

I have always been an animal lover, ever since I was little! You couldn’t tear me away from my Animal Hospital play set! I always had a passion for helping animals and providing them with the care that they deserve.

My favourite part of my job is seeing pets returned to their owners and how happy they both are after being treated by myself and our amazing team! I look forward to meeting you all and your special pets.

Student Veterinary Nurse

I Joined the Vets4Pets Kingswood team October 2017 after spending 3 years in a small animal practice in Bristol where I completed my veterinary care assistant diploma. Once I qualified I continued to work as a Receptionist/care assistant. Since Meeting the team at Kingswood, I loved the new practice and the staff are amazing.

I am currently working as a Student Veterinary Nurse here working towards my qualification. Being an animal lover myself I have two lovely family dogs our boxer called Mica and a Staffordshire bullterrier called Kaz and a playful kitten called Nala.

Receptionist

Having grown up with animals my whole life I always knew I would end up working within the industry so after graduating from university in 2014 I volunteered at a number of animal establishments in Bristol including Bristol Zoo, Noah's Ark and WildPlace.

Since joining the reception team here at Kingswood in 2016 I have loved every moment especially getting to know to all our lovely clients and of course giving cuddles to all their pets.

Receptionist

I joined Vets4Pets at the start of September 2018 and have volunteered in many places such as vets, farms and rescue shelters.

I’ve loved animals since a young age and have wanted to go into the animal sector for as long as I can remember, because of my strong passion for animals I have gained two qualifications in animal nursing and animal management & ethics. I also have previously worked in retail where I realised I loved speaking to people and felt comfortable with talking to anyone!

At home I have 2 cats called Ben and Pixie, and they have an 11 year age gap which makes me laugh as Pixie, the younger one, constantly annoys Ben who never wants to play. I absolutely adore them and one day when I move out into a bigger house I would love to get a dog!
