Clare Bartram Vet Vets4Pets Penny Lane

Dr. Clare Bartram BSc PhD BVSc CertSAM MRCVS

Veterinary Surgeon and partner

I have taken a somewhat unconventional route into the veterinary profession having first undertaken a degree, PhD and finally a post-doctoral research position in Biochemistry before embarking upon my true vocation as a Veterinary Surgeon.

I graduated from vet school at the University of Liverpool in 2001 with a distinction and joined Rutland House, a busy veterinary hospital in St Helens, where I practiced for the past 12 years. In 2009, I attained a Royal College Certificate in Small Animal Medicine; as a result of this, I undertook referral cases in Internal Medicine and have a particular interest in liver and kidney disease, especially management of chronic cases to maximise quality of life.

In opening my own practice, my goal is to bring the discipline and best practices from my previous experiences to a warm and welcoming local surgery delivering the highest standards of patient care.

When not at the practice, I live in Liverpool with my partner, Simon, my beloved rescue German shepherd dog called Kimba and our two adopted cats, Frankie and Lucas.

I enjoy my job enormously and take great satisfaction from providing a quality service to both my clients and patients.

Dr Sophie Baker BVSc MRCVS

Veterinary Surgeon

I graduated from Liverpool University in 2015. I am from Liverpool originally but moved around before returning for university and haven't wanted to leave since! I worked in another Liverpool practice for two and a half years before starting at Penny Lane in April 2018. I enjoy all aspects of practice, especially helping pets with skin problems and behavioural issues. I have a rescue staffy called Scooter. He is a typical softie who loves plenty of cuddles in between destroying toys. He does not enjoy having his photo taken! In my spare time, I enjoy yoga and Zumba, as well as being a big foodie!

Nurse Manager

After working as an auxiliary nurse for the PDSA back in 2001, I went onto train as a Veterinary Nurse within this animal charity. I then went into private practice and later become an ECC nurse for an out of hours company. I am particularly interested in emergency cases due to my back ground, and I am passionate about ensuring that every pet that visits us has the most comfortable and pleasant stay.

I am currently studying and hope to achieve my certificate in ECC VN in the future. I have three cats, Rupie, Ike and Tina Turner, and a cross collie/labrador called Audrey, who is my best friend.

Registered Veterinary Nurse

Prior to joining the Penny Lane team in February 2016, I worked at Rutland House Veterinary Hospital, where I began my veterinary nurse training in 2004. After qualifying in 2006, I worked initially in the first opinion side of the practice, then as a referral ward nurse, an oncology nurse and also practised physiotherapy.

From a very young age I have always been passionate about working with animals and I hope to bring that enthusiasm, together with the skills that I have developed over the years in practice, to my new family at Penny Lane.

I have a particular interest in animal rehabilitation & physiotherapy. Outside of work I live with my husband Chris and our little Mogwai Pippin who we rescued when he was 3 & 1/2 weeks old. He has a heart condition so he sees a cardiologist regularly.

Registered Veterinary Nurse

I qualified from Hartpury College in Gloucester in 2016 and having spent my year placement in the North West, I decided to make a permanent move here, working in another local practice before joining the Penny Lane team in January 2018.

I enjoy working in general practice and have an interest in consulting and medical nursing. Having trained at a hospital that provided out of hours I also get huge satisfaction from nursing emergency and critical care patients.
