Vets4Pets Preston Capitol

Meet the Preston Capitol vet team

Thomas Hindley MRCVS

Veterinary Surgeon and Practice Partner

I have worked at Preston Capitol as a vet since it first opened in November 2013. I grew up on my parent’s farm in South Africa and this is where my love for animals began. I studied at the University of Liverpool, graduating in 2011 with honours in Veterinary Conservation Medicine.

I own two dogs and one rabbit and love nothing more than taking my two dogs Dylan and Marlowe for walks along any available beach. I enjoy seeing the journey shared between pet and owner and have special interest in internal medicine and orthopaedics.

Outside of work I relish the opportunity to go cycling or running in the countryside followed by a trip to the pub or a nice café.

Veterinary Surgeon

Hello, I am one of the Vets here at Preston Capitol Vets4Pets. I am originally from Sweden and joined the team in July 2016 after graduating from Brno University in Czech Republic. I eventually settled in England after meeting my partner Lee.

In my spare time, I enjoy hiking and camping in the Lake District. I have a real passion for rabbits and enjoy everything about them. That's why I adopted two from Pets at Home, called Freja and Little B. My other passion is soft tissue surgery. I enjoy the challenge that surgery can bring as no two procedures are the same.

Simon Johnson RVN

Head Nurse

Hello! I’ve been here since we opened back in November 2013! I started as a Receptionist and now have qualified as a registered veterinary nurse (RVN) and have become Head Nurse.

I have gained my CA-SQP qualification, meaning I am able to prescribe certain medication to your furry and feathered friends. I’ve also gained a certificate in feline friendly nursing through ISFM. I hope to go and gain my advanced nursing qualification next, as well as specialise in emergency critical care and exotic species.

I have two cats, a white furry monster called Zelda who has one blue eye and one green eye and a three-legged monster called Skip. See you all soon! :)

Registered Veterinary Nurse

Hello, I am one of the registered veterinary nurses (RVNs) here at Preston Capitol Vets4Pets. I knew I wanted to become a veterinary nurse at a young age after having taken my rabbits into a clinic to find out how best to care for them. Whilst in high school I decided to undertake work experience in a local practice to broaden my knowledge on what a nurse role is and it certainly opened my eyes.

I got a place at Myerscough College in 2013 doing the 3-year foundation degree course which I qualified from in July 2016. I am now working full time in this clinic whilst continuing with my education by completed a BSc (Hons) in veterinary nursing which I hope to graduate from next year. I am also a clinical coach for student veterinary nurses (SVN) which consists of helping them gain both practical and theory based skills that they will need to sit their practical examinations.

I have a cross breed (Cavapoo) called Bobby and two rabbits called Smokey and Misty. In my spare time, I enjoy watching horror films, going on long walks and socialising with my friends and family.

Claire Simons

Student Veterinary Nurse

Hi I'm Claire and I'm a mature Student Veterinary Nurse and qualified C-SQP.

I am an avid animal lover and strongly believe that all animals deserve to be treated with respect and receive the best possible care to suit their needs and requirement and above all, protection from infections diseases and parasites. It is because of these beliefs and my love of all animals that I decided to make a difference and embark on a career that would not only fulfill me but best of all, a career that would make a difference to all pets that I encounter.

I have always had pets - from small furries to arachnids to dogs and cats and I don't think there is an animal in this world that would not interest me. One of the animals that I find amazing are crocodiles! I think it's amazing that there is such a creature that hasn't had to change much since the Jurassic ages as it is perfect just the way that it is!!

I have worked with many charities over the years, including weekend work in a cattery and most recently I volunteer to take the donations from clients and customers to animal rescue centres.

In my spare time I'm a bit of a geek and love building and painting Warhammer 40k models! I also enjoy gaming and refurbishing old furniture. I love gardening - particularly creating spaces with flowers and plants that attract all kinds of wildlife - especially bees and butterflies!! I also like to enjoy the great outdoors - hiking amongst beautiful scenery is my all time favourite way to spend a beautiful day and I also like to bike off-road in the same kind of environment. I am obsessed with Lush baths and Yankee candles! and I love singing too! x x

Chlöe Walmsley

Hello, my name is Chloe and I am a student veterinary nurse here at Vets4Pets. I have been on placement since 2015 whilst studying at university to get my Veterinary Nursing qualification and I am currently awaiting results. Although I don’t have any pets of my own, I love coming into practice and caring for all your little ones. I have a keen interest in nutrition and love consulting. In my spare time I enjoy reading, drawing and spending time with my friends. I hope to hear from you soon!

Sarah Harrison

Finance & Client Services Manager

Hello, I’m the Practice Manager here and I've been working for Vets4Pets since November 2011.

I also work over at our sister practices in Preston and Lytham St Annes. I have two dogs, Gizmo a shih Tzu cross and Doris a Yorkshire Terrier who I gave a forever after home to after she was brought into Easterleigh animal sanctuary a couple of years ago.

My favourite thing about coming to work each day is working with my fantastic colleagues that are like an extended family and seeing our lovely clients and watching their pets grow up.

Whenever you’re passing, feel free to drop in for a brew and a biscuit :)

Lauren Calvert

Client Care Advisor

Hi, I’m Lauren and I work on reception as a Client Care Advisor. I started at the practice in May 2018 and I absolutely love my job! I am hoping to move my way up through the practice and I am going to start training as a Veterinary Care Assistant in the up and coming months, which I’m looking forward to as it will mean I can get more hands on experience with all of your gorgeous pets! My ultimate goal is to become a Registered Veterinary Nurse.

Whenever I’m not working at Vets4Pets, you will find me with my head in a book, always wanting to further my knowledge, whether it be a book about animals or a car driving theory book- as I’m really hoping to pass my test sometime soon! When I left school last year, I got a job at Nando’s, who I’m still also employed with, and I really enjoy it as my part time job- I mean…who wouldn’t love free chicken?!

I also have two Shih Tzus called Lenny and Leo who I adore! Be sure to ask me about them when you come to reception and I can share lots of cute pictures with you! I look forward to getting to know you and your pet(s) and cannot wait to start building relationships with you all. xx

Emma Pemberton

Client Care Advisor

I've just started working at capitol Vets4Pets as a Client Care Advisor. Previous to this I was at the Moor Lane practice for a year doing work placement alongside my Animal Management course at Myerscough College. I'm excited to be starting at a new practice, and meeting all the lovely clients with their beautiful pets.

My long term goal is to become a Registered Veterinary Nurse and I will be starting my Animal Care assistant course in September, and then moving on to nursing. However this hasn't always been my planned career path. Originally I went to Manchester University to study Event Management, which I completed however I wasn't passionate about. So I changed my path. I'm so glad I went with my gut and reverted back to my passion with animals.

Since a child I always adored animals. I was the kid that wanted to pick the frogs up in the garden or save the injured bird and constantly nagging my parents for a puppy. As a family we have fostered for Dog's Trust and had a number of dogs come and go. However there was one dog we couldn't let go of, and that's the handsome boy in the photo. Sir Winston, the beautiful Old Victorian Bulldog.

I am grateful to be working alongside a wonderful team, and have the opportunity to progress in a career that I'm finally passionate about and excited for the future.
