Rebecca Hughes MRCVS

Joint Venture Partner and Veterinary Surgeon

I qualified in 2001 at Liverpool University and have worked in Mold, Manchester and Altrincham. My heart is in North Wales so opening a practice in Wrexham was the perfect opportunity for me.

I have enjoyed growing the business since opening in 2013 and take pride in the expertise and quality of service we are able to offer our clients. I am passionate about my job as a vet and am a keen surgeon. I also have an interest in veterinary acupuncture. I take pride in my job and enjoy building good relationships with clients and their pets.

Outside of work I am busy with my family which consists of 2 dogs, 2 cats, a peregrine falcon, a husband and a daughter. I am an avid road cyclist and runner and try to get out as much as I can.

Head Veterinary Nurse

I have been with the practice since we opened in April 2013 and love being part of the team here. I qualified as a veterinary nurse in 1998 from Llandrillo College and started my career in a mixed animal practice in North Wales where I stayed for 10 years. I moved to Manchester working in a small animal practice before starting at a large referral hospital where I was trained in dermatology and gained considerable experience in this field.

I have a keen interest in skin and ear problems, laboratory work, diagnostic procedures and critical care. When I am not working I look after my two cats Marco and Stewie. I enjoy cooking, reading, walking and spending time with my family and friends.

Registered Veterinary Nurse

I have always wanted to work with animals and after leaving school, I attended Llysfasi College where I studied a National Diploma in Animal Management. After college I decided to go to Harper Adams University to study a foundation degree in Veterinary Nursing qualifying in 2014.

I obviously really enjoyed my time there as I decided to stay on an extra year and gained a Batchelor of Science Honours degree in Veterinary nursing and practice management. I have always worked within North Wales as a proud welsh girl and on the Shropshire border in Oswestry, joining Vets4Pets Plas Coch in 2015.

I really enjoy working here and work hard to ensure your pets get the same attention and care as I would give my own. I really enjoy nursing clinics and getting to know the animals as well as the clients. In my spare time I enjoy spending time with my family, friends and my own animals as well as horse riding and playing netball for my local club.

Registered Veterinary Nurse

I carried out my first year of training in Harper Adams University and then completed my training in Practice which included going to College one day a week, I then became a proud Registered Veterinary Nurse in 2016.

I have been working in a busy Small and Large Animal Veterinary hospital for the last 3 years and joined the team here at Plas Coch in July 2017. It didn’t take me long to realise this is such a lovely little practice, everyone is so friendly and welcoming, each and every member of staff really do care about our clients and patients.

My favourite part of my job is Nurse Consultations as I’m a chatterbox and like meeting new people and animals and helping them enjoy their healthy lives together.

Outside of work I find myself walking my two lovely Labradors in the beautiful countryside where I live and running around after my crazy little Kitten “Dolly” who came into Plas Coch at just a day old, I hand reared her and she ended up a permanent member of our family.

Student Veterinary Nurse

Hi, I have always wanted to work with animals. When I left school i worked in a referral vets on the Wirral and went on day release to college once a week to do my Small Animal Care diploma for a year. I then went to work in another referral practice near Frodsham as an animal nursing assistant. After a few years I decided to have a little change in career and went into equine grooming, where I have worked with some lovely polo ponies belonging to two professional polo players within Cheshire polo club. At the end of the summer season I got my job here as an animal nursing assistant, with one day being able to do my veterinary nurse training. With having a menagerie of pets at home from chickens and ducks in the garden to 3 dogs, a tortoise and a rabbit indoors. I also own a few horses which I keep on a local yard.

Veterinary Care Assistant

I recently moved to North Wales with my partner, and more recently, joined the team working as a Veterinary Care Assistant. I will be studying Veterinary Nursing next year, which has been my dream job for quite some time! I can’t wait to start, and look forward to sharing my knowledge with everyone. I started off volunteering for several animal charities, and still maintain a keen interest in animal welfare.

In my spare time I enjoy the great outdoors; mostly rock climbing, so this part of the country is perfect for it. I also visit family back home in Surrey when I can, and am still trying to convince them to move up here! I have a cat of my own, Fifi, but I hope to rehome more cats in the near future!

Veterinary Care Assistant

Whilst growing up I always saw working with animals in my future! Since leaving school I have worked in a couple of vet practices before joining Vets4Pets Plas Coch in April 2016 as a Veterinary Care Assistant, and I enjoy every minute of it!

The clients we have and the colleagues I work with make my job very enjoyable, not to mention the lovely pets I see and care for on a daily basis. I live at home with our crazy dogs - Beenie the greyhound and Bob who is a Staffordshire bull terrier; they make quite the pair and certainly keep us on our toes! When I’m not walking them with my lovely family I can be found either in the kitchen decorating cakes, or in my bedroom drawing and painting!

I can honestly say I love it! Every day brings something new and meeting our clients and getting to know them and their pets is one of the best parts of the job.

Outside of work I love baking and spending time with family and friends and my cat Fluffy.

I have always had a passion for animals. Since I was little my house has always been like a zoo! I live with 3 dogs - Pickles, Olly and Milo. I would be lying if I didn't say I was obsessed with them.

I am currently at university studying for a BSc in Animal Studies. When I finish I have aspirations to become a veterinary nurse. I began coming to Wrexham Plas Coch on work experience for my university course and I have loved it here since day 1.

In my spare time I cook, travel and take photographs. I look forward to meeting you and all your lovely pets
