We’re locally owned and run by husband and wife team Dr Caroline Richards and Dr Peter Richards. We opened our doors in 2002 and since then have welcomed tens of thousands of pets.

Dr. Caroline Richards BVSc MRCVS GPCert(Endo), has a certificate in both flexible and rigid endoscopes. An endoscopy allows visual examination of internal organs and body parts with minimally invasive surgery. Caroline has a real passion for laparoscopy, also known as keyhole surgery, which you may have heard of in human surgery.

Dr. Peter Richards BVSc Cert AVP PG Cert (VPS) MRCVS holds a certificate in advanced veterinary practice and a post-graduate certificate in Veterinary Professional Studies. He’s skilled in all surgery including more complex referral work.

Although Peter and Caroline may have a host of letters after their name they’re down to earth and are found in the practice every day. Whether your pet’s in for its vaccinations or an operation, you know they’re in the very best hands.

When they’re not in the practice Peter and Caroline live locally and can be found picking their children up from the local school or walking their dog.

Peter Richards

Joint Venture Partner
BVSc Cert AVP PG Cert(VPS) MRCVS

My name is Peter, and I am one of the veterinary partners at Barnsley Vets4Pets. I’ve been a vet for over 20 years, starting work in Hull before moving first to Clitheroe, then to Barnsley in 2002, where, Caroline and I started the practice in March 2002.

I completed my Certificate in Advanced Veterinary Practice last year along with a Postgraduate Certificate in Veterinary Professional Studies. I enjoy orthopaedic surgery with a particular interest in knee surgery.

Barnsley Team Pics 558x270 - Caroline.jpg

Caroline Richards

Joint Venture Partner
BVSc, MRCVS, GPCert(Endo)

My name is Caroline, and I am one of the veterinary partners at Barnsley Vets4Pets. Pete, my husband, and I opened the practice 16 years ago and we have grown in size and service levels ever since. The practice turned into a hospital providing 24 hour care over 4 years now. We have 55 team members in the hospital, with very talented people who are very passionate about the care they provide to our patients.

In work I am very involved with the running of the hospital from marketing to recruitment, but my real passion lies with surgery. I love to operate in the theatres and I have carried out postgraduate studies and exams to advance my knowledge in endoscopy - keyhole surgery. Just like in human medicine, we are continually finding ways to reduce the trauma of surgery, using small incisions and more pain free techniques through endoscopy. I love being at the front of these dances in surgery, and it means I can offer more pain free surgery options to my patients. Some examples of where I regularly use endoscopy are: laparoscopic ovariectomy (lap spay), arthroscopy (looking in joints), cystoscopy (looking in the bladder), rhinoscopy and tracheostomy (looking in the nose and lungs). I will also use a flexible scope to look at the upper and lower gastrointestinal system. I am very lucky that I feel like my job is the best job in the world, and I am very privileged to work with lovely people and lovely animals every day.
