I like all animals, large and small.

I have a cat called Spyder - she was a rescue from work. She had a fractured leg and the owner did not want to get it mended and opted to have her put to sleep. So we mended the leg and the rest is history. We also have two Guinea Pigs, Gary and Sophie, who regularly go into my children's school for a demonstration of how to be a vet.

Gabor Nemes

What is your Job Role?
Emergency Out of Hours Veterinary Surgeon

What is your favourite animal & why?
It is nearly impossible for a vet to favour just one species, but for me its probably chickens. They are a great challenge to treat and since we've got a few of them, I realised how wonderful pets they make.

What pets do you have & what are their names?
Dogs, cats, chickens, a mud turtle, a corn snake, fish and the regular recovering guests, lately an injured tawny owl. We have lot of pets, with a lot of confusing Hungarian names.

What is the best pet name you've come across?
'Blooming Thing' (a rehomed cat, named by the owners' grandson)

What is your favourite famous animal?
Mancs ( meaning 'paw'), a German Shepherd from my home town of Miskolc, Hungary, who worked with Spider Special Rescue Team as an earthquake search and rescue dog, locating people buried under the earthquake rubble. He did not only differentiate, whether the person was dead or alive, but could also indicate this to the two-legged members of the rescue crew. He saved several lives all over the world.
