Meet the Bishopston Vet Team

Tom JVP Bishopston

Tom Crippen

Veterinary Surgeon & Partner

I grew up on a smallholding in Shropshire so animals have been part of  my life for as long as I can remember. I've been qualified since 2005 and have been a small animal vet ever since. I have a wide range of experience and have worked in a variety of practices from the smallest   surgeries to very big hospitals.

For the first four years after qualifying I worked in first opinion practice, and for the last couple of years I've been working nights as an emergency vet, so I have had to deal with the whole spectrum of illnesses that we see in animals. I have an interest in surgery, emergency medicine and diagnositic imaging (x-rays and ultrasound).

What is your favourite animal and why?
Cats - as they are independent in some ways but then very affectionate in others. In the veterinary industry, some cats can be labelled as nasty and evil when they are merely misunderstood. I have learnt a lot about cat behaviour over the years and this has made me love them even more.

What pets do you have and what are their names?
Funnily enough, I have two cats, one called Wallace and one called Jinksy.

What's the best pet name that you've ever come across?
Tiny, when it’s a 60kg Rottweiler.

What's the best aspect of working for Vets4Pets?
The support you have around you from the other teams and the lovely clients we have in this great community.

What is your favourite animal and why?
My favourite domestic animal is the dog. I've always grown up with dogs and helped foster dogs. They are really good companions and always pleased to see you. I love seeing them happy and enjoying themselves through little comforts such as walks, toys and treats and the good old belly tickle or ear scratch. I call a good tail wag the 'Wag-o-meter' this is to show the measurement of there happiness. I'm a big fan of terriers and GSD's.

What pets do you have and what are their names?
I have a black bouncy German Shepherd called Maverick also known as Mav, Utterly Mutterly or donkey. He is a character for sure. I also have two domestic rabbits called Bunny black and white and Molly who is Brown and White, and my last two are Rosie and Jim they are Hermann Tortoises....very interesting pets.

What's the best pet name that you've ever come across?
Custard I think was the best name I've heard for a cat, one of my first intensive patients I looked after, suited his colour well and his personality was that of a prince...lovely lovely cat.

What's the best aspect of working for Vets4Pets?
I get to help make client's beloved and important member of the family better and reassure them. I get to help promote preventative health care in a personal and polite manner, and I get to bring my 'Donkey' (Maverick) to work with me...how can you beat that for a day job...prrrrrrfect xx
