Johan Van Sittert MRCVS JVP Veterinary Surgeon Bridgwater Vets4Pets

Johan Van Sittert MRCVS

Joint Venture Partner & Veterinary Surgeon

I am Johan van Sittert. I am the joint venture partner and veterinary surgeon in Vets4Pets. My main responsibility is the provision of high quality compassionate care to all my patients and their owners.

My main goal is to improve the quality of life of my patients and also to guide their owners to be able to provide the best possible life for them. I believe that prevention is always better than cure and is always happy to discuss preventative measures like vaccinations and parasite control as this is the corner stone of a happy and hopefully long life of the pet. I have a special interest in surgery, both soft tissue and orthopaedic and obtained my Post graduate Certificate in small animal surgery in 2017.

I am originally from South Africa and graduated from Onderstepoort (University of Pretoria) at the end of 2002. I started Working in England in 2003 in Peterborough. I was there for four years in a companion animal hospital before returning to South Africa. While in South Africa for 2 years I was focusing mostly on production animals, mostly cattle and sheep farming. Returning to London in 2008, since then I have been working exclusively in companion animal practice.

In my private time I like photography and walking. I am also a qualified scuba diver with a PADI Rescue diver qualification.  I have a Springer Spaniel called Lulu, a cat called Lilly Rose and a rabbit called Daisy. I do like the fact that no two days in practice is ever the same. Also seeing the difference we make in some of our patient's lives is what gets me to get up and go to work every day.

My interests at working include surgery, anaesthesia and working with eyes. At home my interests include competing and riding horses particularly the Haflinger which is an Austrian mountain pony breed. I also enjoy walking in the countryside and enjoy walking the local Somerset hills, but also love to go back to my original habitat in the vale of Clwyd, North Wales.

My Current pets: Mona- superstar cat who was a stray that came home for just the weekend from work but never went back. She loves having her teeth brushed and can do lots of tricks such as sit, high five, spin and recalls to a bell.

I look forward to gaining new experiences from the talented Bridgwater clinical tea and creating new bonds with the clients and patients. I also look forward to pushing my clinical abilities to always give my patients the best standard of care I am capable of.
