Tom Butler Veterinary Surgeon Llanrumney

Tom Butler - BVetMed CertSAS MRCVS

Practice owner & Veterinary Surgeon

I qualified as a veterinary surgeon from the Royal Vet College, London in 2002.

I have always been surrounded by pets, currently Missy a black lab and Janice the Jack Russell.

I aim to treat all pets as if they were my own. In 2010 I passed the RCVS certificate in small animal surgery (CertSAS) . I am one of few vets in South Wales who hold this qualification and I am able to perform complex surgeries here in Cardiff for my own patients and for pets referred to me from other practices.

I have always been a keen sportsman, in my earlier days I played professional rugby for Leicester Tigers, I currently play league basketball for the Caerphilly Salamanders.

Veterinary Surgeon

I graduated at the top of my year from The Royal Veterinary College, London in 2004.

Since graduation I have kept up my studies as I aim to provide the best possible care to the pets that I treat. I have completed both the ESVP Certificate in feline medicine, and the RCVS Certificate in Small Animal Medicine; the latter being a qualification very few vets in South Wales have.

I am particularly passionate about helping pets with medical conditions such as bowel disease, kidney failure and heart and lung disease. I previously worked in a large Midlands practice seeing pets with these conditions referred to me from other vets.

Even though many of these conditions cannot be cured, I strongly believe that in the right hands we can provide these patients with the best quality of life for as long as possible. Here at Llanrumney Vets4Pets we like to work with owners as a team, giving you all the options available for you and your beloved pets.

I qualified from Instituto de Ciencias Biomedicas Abel Salazar, Porto, Portugal in 2009.

I moved to the UK in 2013 and joined the team at Llanrumney in October 2015.

I’ve always had pets growing up and currently have two cats called Mavis and Milo, who I adopted as rescues. My favourite part of being a vet is preventing health problems; for example vaccination, neutering and parasite control which are all essential to keep pets in tip top condition.

I’m quite lazy like my cats (!) but in my spare time I enjoy travelling and experiencing other cultures, and spending time with friends.

Veterinary Surgeon

I qualified from the Royal Veterinary College in London in July and joined the Llanrumney team in October. I'm originally from Buxton in the Peak District but have relocated to Cardiff to be with my partner who is also a vet.

I enjoy all aspects of veterinary medicine, but am especially interested in surgery. I can't wait to start developing my surgical skills and hope to see plenty of orthopaedic work.

I have been playing rugby since my teens, and got the chance to play for Buxton RFC at Twickenham this year. I also enjoy lifting weights and made it to the final of the British Power Liftting Championships in 2015. When not at the practice you'll find me playing rugby for Whitchurch RFC, doing crossfit or walking my girlfriends labradoodle, Milo.

Registered Veterinary Nurse

I have recently joined Llanrumney Vets4Pets, in June 2015. My main clinical interests lie in pain management, canine and feline behaviour and peri-operative care.

My pets include a stubborn Italian Spinone called Florence & Clawdette the domestic shorthaired cat! Florence has a few ongoing medical complaints which means I really understand how distressing having a poorly pet can be.

My aim is to look after each patient as my own and give them the care I would like my furry babies to receive!

I have always had a passion for animals and had pets at my family home. I hold the National Diploma in Animal Management which I studied for at Walford and North Shropshire College. When I'm not in work I love exploring places. I've recently moved to Llanrumney and I am looking forward to meeting with you and your furry friends.
