Vets4Pets Catterick Garrison

Meet the Catterick Garrison Vet Team

Catterick Vets4Pets Jo Barker prifle

Dr. Joanne Barker

Owner & Veterinary Surgeon

Hi, I'm Jo Barker, Joint Venture Partner at Catterick Vets4Pets.

I qualified from the Royal (Dick) Veterinary College, University of Edinburgh in 1999. I spent my early years as a vet in mixed practice in Stokesley, a small market town in North Yorkshire where I gained masses of experience in all aspects of veterinary medicine and surgery, from calving cows to operating on chinchillas! I moved into full time small animal work four years ago, and this allowed me to pursue my interests in ultrasonography and small animal cardiology.

At home my family pets are a beautiful cat and two little guinea pigs. Eventually I would love to get a border terrier to add to the family.

Outside work I like to cook Italian food. I love gardening and try to grow veg that I can use in my favourite recipes. I also enjoy going to the cinema, reading the odd novel, and I have occasionally been seen on my bike!

I decided to open Vets4Pets Catterick because I felt that my experience had given me the confidence to strike out on my own, and because I felt that I could provide the people of Catterick with the kind of practice they really need and deserve. It is hugely important to me that we have a "whole family" approach to caring for our pets. I love to engage with children and help them to care for their pets in a responsible way. I have a son myself and my family are my world. As a client you can rest assured that my team and I will treat your pet exactly as we would treat our own! My new team at Catterick are all so motivated to provide exceptional quality veterinary care, and I am so proud to work with all of them.

Veterinary surgeon

I graduated from Edinburgh in 1999 along with Joanne Barker. I worked in a busy mixed practice in a close rural community for 13 years, gaining lots of experience and making lots of good friends, but I found that small animal practice, especially surgery, was where my interests lie. I have an elderly dog called Ben, Jade the cat and 2 Exmoor ponies, all of whom have been my faithful companions through my years of practice. I look forward to working in this friendly practice and making new friends. Outside of work, I enjoy reading and a variety of outdoor activities including walking, cycling and riding.

Stephanie King

Registered Veterinary Nurse

I qualified as an RVN in 2016, training at a veterinary hospital in Lincoln before moving here to Catterick Garrison with my partner in the forces. I have a particular interest in animal behaviour, having a BSc in the subject and am happy to offer related advice where I can. I am also passionate about feline nursing; you will find me championing our cat-friendly practice status and have plans to undergo an advanced feline nursing course next year. But I'm still a dog-lover too!

Outside of work I enjoy taking part in amateur dramatics and am also a bit of a girl gamer and sci-fi geek! I live with my partner Conor and my temperamental yet gorgeous tabby cat Goku.

Emily Towns

Registered Veterinary Nurse

Hello I'm Emily, I qualified as a registered veterinary nurse in 2016, within the nursing role my favourite areas are working in theatre being involved with a wide range of surgery and inpatient care. I absolutely love my job and I'm looking forward to progressing in my career further by running nursing clinics and also helping and teaching students to become qualified veterinary nurses too. Outside of work I enjoy taking my dog Buster for long walks in the countryside and spending time with my horse Splinter.

Student Veterinary Nurse

I have recently started my two year course to become a Veterinary Nurse. I am keen on all aspects of nursing and especially like working with dogs. At home I have two cocker spaniels called Rosie and Sophie, and they keep me busy when I'm not working. I really hope my enthusiasm and passion for the job comes across in the way I care for all my little patients.

Student Veterinary nurse

I qualified as a VCA in 2016 and because I love working with pets I decided to go on to study veterinary nursing. Luckily I found a placement here. I have a very cheeky cocker spaniel called Lilly and when I’m not working we love going to our weekly agility class and going on long exciting walks together.

After serving in the British Army for 23 years I decided that I would far rather work with animals then people! Fortunately the team at Catterick Vets4Pets took a chance on me and allowed me to learn on the job. I am working alongside a great team of professionals here and you will meet me when you come to the counter. Please be patient with me and stay for a chat.

Outside of work I enjoy most sports however I mainly spectate rather than participate since I hit my 40's. I still do a lot of running however, and my wife and I enjoy walking to Richmond for a meal and social drinks.

We are the very proud companions of an extremely handsome cat called Duncan.

I have lived in Catterick Garrison for 14 years. I have two lovely cats, Paco, a Maine Coon and Lucy, a domestic shorthair. I worked in the veterinary field years ago and have decided to come back. I absolutely love animals. Outside of work my main interest is raising money for the Royal British Legion Poppy Appeal.
