Meet the Liverpool Old Swan vet team

Liverpool Veterinary Surgeon Megan Brannigan

Dr. Megan Brannigan- BVSc MRCVS

Veterinary Surgeon and Practice Director

I qualified from the University of Liverpool in 1997. After spending a year doing mixed practice in Hay-on-Wye, I came back, and have been a small animal vet in Liverpool ever since. I enjoy all small animal medicine and surgery, but particularly cardiology, oncology (cancer treatment), pain management, and dog behaviour.

I also have a strong interest in small mammal medicine, especially ferrets and I am proud to be a Rabbit Welfare Association friendly vet. Having my own practice has allowed me to get to know my patients well, and my clients like seeing the same person each time they come into the surgery. As well as spending time with my own pets, I’m interested in wildlife and landscape photography, hiking and wine tasting.

David Donovan Vet Liverpool

David Donovan BVSc MRCVS

Veterinary Surgeon

David started work in July 2012 straight after he graduated from Liverpool University. Megan has known David since he was 17 years old, and as a vet student, he often came to see practice with us. He's always known that he wanted to be a small animal vet and he was delighted to be able to join our team! He has a cat called Elmo at home. David has a keen interest in pain management, dermatology and now does most of our orthopaedics procedures. He mainly works at the Walton Vale surgery now, but is sometimes spotted at Old Swan.

Sophie Liverpool Old Swan

Dr. Sophie McGuigan BVSc MRCVS

Veterinary Surgeon

My name is Sophie McGuigan and I qualified as a vet surgeon from Liverpool University in 2012. I have worked at Vets4Pets Old Swan since January 2014 and have really enjoyed getting to know our clients and patients! In work I enjoy all aspects of medicine and surgery, and have a special interest in ultrasonography. At home I have 2 border terriers Maggie and Bert and a husband Conor. I enjoy playing musical instruments and I have also appeared on Bargain Hunt!

Dr. Alex McCormack

Veterinary Surgeon

I'm originally from Surrey but have been loving life in Liverpool since 2006. I arrived for university and never wanted to go home. After graduating from The University of Liverpool (for the second time) in 2014, I worked for almost a year in Manchester doing small animal and exotic work in a busy 24 hour hospital.

I joined Vets4Pets in Old Swan in June 2015 and have enjoyed meeting all the clients and patients. Clinically my interests are exotic pets, surgery and canine behaviour. Outside of work I enjoy cooking and baking, going on adventures with my husband and spend a lot of time trying to tire out my little fox red Labrador, Amber.

Dr. Chloe Hughes

Veterinary Surgeon

I qualified from the University of Nottingham and began working at Liverpool Vets4Pets in June 2015. I had undertaken many placements at the practice as a vet student over the previous few years so was excited to join the team and get to know all of our lovely clients. I have always had a keen interest in small animal practice, particularly in soft tissue surgery and ophthalmology. At home I have a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel called Luke and a cat called Pudsey.
