Clare Bartram Vet Vets4Pets Penny Lane

Dr. Clare Bartram BSc PhD BVSc CertSAM MRCVS

Veterinary Surgeon and partner

I have taken a somewhat unconventional route into the veterinary profession having first undertaken a degree, PhD and finally a post-doctoral research position in Biochemistry before embarking upon my true vocation as a Veterinary Surgeon.

I graduated from vet school at the University of Liverpool in 2001 with a distinction and joined Rutland House, a busy veterinary hospital in St Helens, where I practiced for the past 12 years. In 2009, I attained a Royal College Certificate in Small Animal Medicine; as a result of this, I undertook referral cases in Internal Medicine and have a particular interest in liver and kidney disease, especially management of chronic cases to maximise quality of life.

In opening my own practice, my goal is to bring the discipline and best practices from my previous experiences to a warm and welcoming local surgery delivering the highest standards of patient care.

When not at the practice, I live in Liverpool with my partner, Simon, my beloved rescue German shepherd dog called Kimba and our two adopted cats, Frankie and Lucas.

I enjoy my job enormously and take great satisfaction from providing a quality service to both my clients and patients.

Dr. Vivien Hartley-Ryan BSc Hons BVSc Hons PHD MRCVS

Veterinary Surgeon

My career path has been similar to Clare’s in that I also undertook an undergraduate degree, in my case, Zoology at University College London, prior to commencing my veterinary career. I then graduated in Veterinary Medicine with honours from the University of Bristol in 2003 and worked for a few years in Somerset as an assistant in mixed practice where I was exposed not only to small and large animals but also to a variety of British wildlife.

My PhD brought me to Liverpool where I fell in love with the culture and people and I have been here ever since. I completed my PhD in 2008 in small animal internal medicine with a focus on companion animal obesity. I then accepted a post at the small animal practice at the University of Liverpool where I progressed to the senior position and became involved in teaching and lecturing final year students in first opinion preventative medicine. Prior to starting at Penny Lane I was senior veterinary surgeon at The Ark Veterinary Centre in Speke Liverpool for many years and during that time I also started working for Vets Now, a UK wide provider of out-of-hours veterinary care at their busy clinic in Huyton.

I am the newest member of the team at Penny Lane and have been overwhelmed by the quality of care given to patients and the team’s constant efforts to practice evidence-based veterinary medicine to the very highest standards. I feel privileged to work with such a caring and hard working group of people. My spare time is spent with my family and my fluffy creatures, George the naughty cat and Filo my adorable Border collie.

Registered Veterinary Nurse

Prior to joining the Penny Lane team in February 2016, I worked at Rutland House Veterinary Hospital, where I began my veterinary nurse training in 2004. After qualifying in 2006, I worked initially in the first opinion side of the practice, then as a referral ward nurse, an oncology nurse and also practised physiotherapy.

From a very young age I have always been passionate about working with animals and I hope to bring that enthusiasm, together with the skills that I have developed over the years in practice, to my new family at Penny Lane.

I have a particular interest in animal rehabilitation & physiotherapy. Outside of work I live with my husband Chris and our little Mogwai Pippin who we rescued when he was 3 & 1/2 weeks old. He has a heart condition so he sees a cardiologist regularly.
