Unfortunately, there comes a time when a pet’s life is coming to an end. This is inevitable but how we treat that pet in its last few weeks to months makes a huge difference to their quality of life. We are here to help make your pet as happy and comfortable as possible as they get older or are coming to the end of an incurable disease. Our vets and nurses can advise you on the best ways to keep your pet comfortable; ideas on how to keep them active and maintain their quality of life – not just how long they live for.
When the time comes for us to euthanase or “put your pet to sleep”, we can give you honest advice on whether the time is right to do this. We also offer a range of options to suit you and your personal circumstances to keep your pet comfortable in its final moments. We can euthanase your pet at the practice at a time to suit you or we can arrange a visit to your home. At present home visits need to be booked in advance.
Euthanasia entails a highly concentrated anaesthetic agent being given in the vein. This works very quickly and will put an animal to sleep and shut down its heart and brain within 30 seconds of the injection being given. We find this is a very peaceful way to go. We have a cremation service at the practice, working in partnership with PCS, a trusted reliable pet cremation company.
