Behavioural Problems

Pet behavioural counselling can be used to treat a variety of undesirable behaviours, such as:
  • Aggression
  • Destructiveness
  • Toileting problems- marking and spraying
  • Self-mutilation
  • Vocal behaviour
  • Nervousness
  • Car travel issues
  • Livestock chasing
  • General control issues

How does it work?

Sharon works with pet owners to investigate the causes of unwanted behaviour and outline practical treatment plans that are suitable for the clients’ individual circumstances.

Sharon asks owners to fill in a comprehensive questionnaire regarding the pets’ behaviour before booking an appointment, in order to help to save valuable time during the consultation and allowing Sharon to focus on the undesirable behaviour(s) and potential solutions. A copy of this questionnaire is available from the surgery, and once completed and returned Sharon will call to arrange an appointment.

Depending on the problem(s) consultations can be arranged at the surgery, or may be carried out in the owners own home over one or two hours with prior arrangement. Home assessments maybe needed to allow Sharon to observe your pets behaviour in their own environment as they are generally more relaxed, which can help in determining causes of the problem. It also helps to observe interactions in multi-pet households and with different family members.
