Meet the Perth vet team

Perth Vets4Pets Lesley Buchan

Lesley Buchan MRCVS

Owner & Veterinary Surgeon

I'm Lesley Buchan, the singing vet! I had two offers when I left school in Dunblane - study music at the Scottish conservatoire or become a vet. Guess which choice I made? After qualifying from the Royal (Dick) School of Veterinary Studies in Edinburgh I worked in mainly large animal practice in Cumbria for 12 years. I really enjoyed the farm work and was in demand for my lambing skills. However, I wanted to gain more experience working with small animals. A move to the lovely city of York allowed me to take over my own practice which I ran successfully for 10 years building a large and very loyal customer base. It was great to follow the progress of the families as they grew with their various children and pets. I have always tried to balance modern advances in veterinary medicine with a high level of personal caring. Whilst there I began to study for my certificate in dermatology, which I gained in 2012. I see many animals with skin conditions which are distressing so it is great to be able to provide expertise and latest medical techniques to help their suffering.

Although York is a beautiful city I missed the hills of Perthshire where I grew up so I made the move and was delighted with the opportunity to establish a new surgery in Perth. And of course there is still plenty time in my life for singing, playing cello and I hope to set up a karate club locally after achieving my black belt in 2011! I have grown up sons: Thomas studying music in London and Matthew who is keen to follow a career in drama. At home my constant companion is Lily, a rescue lurcher with the face of a meerkat, who races me up Craigrossie and potters about in the garden with my three chickens.

I look forward to seeing you and your special companions in Perth.

Perth Vets4Pets Patricia MacFadyen

Patricia MacFadyen BVMS, Cert SAM, MRCVS

Veterinary Surgeon

Patricia qualified from Glasgow Vet School in 1996 and worked in mixed practice in the south of England for 4 years. When she moved back up to Scotland she decided to forgo chasing hairy coos around a field in mid-winter for the very different challenges of companion animal work. In 2002 Patricia gained her RCVS certificate in Small Animal Medicine. This was led by a desire to study for a post-graduate qualification that would be very relevant to everyday general practice. In the course of the study for this Certificate she has developed a deeper awareness of l the most modern options for diagnosis and treatment whilst still considering what is the most appropriate approach for each pet and each owner treating them as individuals on a case-by-case basis.

She has also taken the Western Veterinary Acupuncture course and has found this to be a very successful complementary therapy for many animals who may not tolerate traditional medicine or that can be used alongside traditional medicine.

Patricia has a special interest in rabbits, guinea pigs and small furries and understands how even the smallest pet can be a large member of the family, deserving of all our attention and care.

After a short break from full time practice during which time she did weekend locum work around the Tayside and Fife area Patricia is happy to have joined the Vets4Pets Perth team on a part-time basis. Outwith work Patricia enjoys spending time with her two young children, cooking, swimming and geocaching. She has a food and dust mite allergic cat and is currently between guinea pigs.

Perth Vets4Pets Rocky - dog

Practice Dog

I’m Rocky and I love swimming, sleeping and teddy bears. When I’m not annoying Lily I like to eat. Everyone feeds me biscuits when my mum Gayle is not looking, as she thinks I’m on a diet.

Perth Vets4Pets Lily - dog

Practice Dog

I'm Lily, a deerhound greyhound cross found as a stray in Leeds. Luckily I was eventually taken to the Dog’s Trust there and within half an hour of arriving had found a new home with Lesley and her boys. I now live in Perthshire and come in to work in Vets4Pets Perth. When I say “work” I mean “sleep and cadge biscuits from friends in the vets and Pets at Home”. It’s a great life! At home I like walks in the countryside and getting very close to the fire. My arch enemies are squirrels because even though I’m fast I can’t climb trees!

Vets4Pets Perth Kai.jpg

Practice Dog

I'm Kai, a very bouncy, happy year old Labrador! I love long walks, stealing food & cuddles. My favourite doggy in the whole world is Rocky! He is my best friend and I am sad when he is not here. Even though I constantly play bite his face and legs, I think he likes me too. My mum Lisa is trying really hard to train me but I don't listen because I like to test her patience.

I have a passion for anatomy and love my exotics - I owned over 40 stick insects when I was younger! Saying this I am definitely a dog person and live in Glasgow with my little Lhasa Apso, Teddy. In her spare time Flo enjoys re-enactment of Viking and Pictish history and travels to Norway each year to take part in Viking festivals. When asked why she became a veterinary nurse Flo said ''I have had animals all my life, they are my greatest passion and I wanted a rewarding career where I could work with animals all day every day and contrubute in some small way to making a difference to their lives as well as being a voice for those who cannot speak. Veterinary Nursing is a vocation, not a job and no day is ever the same, I wouldn't want to do anything else'.

Hello, my name is Pauline. I started working for Vets4Pets in March 2018. I had previously worked in the catering industry and it may seem like a big change but our vet practice here in Perth has become a fast paced and busy operation just like where I was before. Working in the front line is very important. We get to know all the furry patients as well as their mummies and daddies. Unfortunately, my beautiful Labrador, Millie,, passed away and it has taken me a while to recover from losing her…but…I am very excited to say that we are having a new addition to our family very soon who is a Lhasa Apso called Ted.
