Meet the Preston Capitol vet team

Tom Hindley

Veterinary Surgeon and Practice Partner

I have worked at Preston Capitol as a vet since it first opened in November 2013. I grew up on my parent’s farm in South Africa and this is where my love for animals began. I studied at the University of Liverpool, graduating in 2011 with honours in Veterinary Conservation Medicine. I own two dogs and one rabbit and love nothing more than taking my two dogs Dylan and Marlowe for walks along any available beach. I enjoy seeing the journey shared between pet and owner and have special interest in internal medicine and orthopaedics.

Outside of work I relish the opportunity to go cycling or running in the countryside followed by a trip to the pub or a nice café.

Dan Pocora

Veterinary Surgeon

I graduated from the University of Veterinary Medicine in Cluj-Napoca, Romania in 2006 and since then have been working in the field of sales and distribution of veterinary pharmaceutical products, medical equipment and also in small animal veterinary practice. I decided to move in the UK last year and in the summer of 2015 I joined this great team.

I have special interest in small animal internal medicine, ultrasound examination, soft tissue surgery and pain management.

When I am not at the clinic I enjoy spending time with my family and friends, doing outdoor activities and also I like to travel to see different places, reading or watching movies for entertainment.

Holly Yeardley

District Senior Nurse

Hi, I’m Holly! I joined the Vets4Pets team in March 2016 as District Senior Nurse. I have been working in practice since leaving school and I first qualified as an Animal Nursing Assistant in 2009, going on to qualify as a Registered Veterinary Nurse in September 2013. Continuing to progress my learning is an important part of my career and I am now studying towards a certificate in feline nursing. I love all aspects of nursing, however my main interest is within nurse consultations and inpatient care. I am also a clinical coach, which allows me to train and support the students in growing their practical skills and obtaining their qualification.

I am originally from Hampshire and the majority of my spare time is spent with my fiancé Charlie enjoying various leisure activities, visiting family and friends and my two wonderful dogs, a Yorkshire Terrier called Betty and a Patterjack called Sydney.

Jayne Dawson

Registered Veterinary Nurse

I've been qualified for just over two years now; I'm currently in the middle of studying for my advanced veterinary nursing award so I can give my patients the best possible care. My favourite area of nursing is in ward; I love sitting with our patients and giving them lots of love and cuddles and it’s such a reward to see them get better and go home to their mums and dads. I myself have a lot of animals! Ozzy a chocolate Labrador, Lilly a German shepherd cross, Lola a domestic rabbit, Simba a lop cross rabbit, Whiskey a Syrian hamster, Ted and Sid are guinea pigs and last but not least Tom, our cat. I love being apart of the Vets4Pets team, everyone is incredibly welcoming and friendly. Although I've only been here a short period of time everyone has made me feel so welcome and it feels like I've been here for years! My future goals are to complete my current advanced nursing qualification and then I hope to complete a ECC award for emergency and critical care and then go on to complete my Masters at Harper Adams university in Shropshire.

Sophie-May Mansfield

Student Veterinary Nurse

I am Sophie-May. I have been with Vets4Pets since June 2012 and love my job! Some of you may have seen me at the Lytham St Anne's branch where I worked from June 2012 until September 2015. I have now been working at the Preston Capitol branch inside pets at home since then and love it!! I still work every Tuesday at our Lytham St Anne's branch. I started off as an apprentice receptionist and progressed to become a veterinary nurse. I will hopefully be sitting my final exams in June this year. I love animals and could not think of a better job to do. I have a 13 year old Cocker Spaniel called Kizzy who I have had since 6 months of age and I also have a rescue rabbit called Toffee which I rescued from the Support adoption centre in Pets At Home. They both get on very well and love to snuggle up on the couch with me at night! In the future, I would really love to progress with my career and hopefully go along the lines of behaviour management or physiotherapy to help those poorly pet recuperate after an orthopaedic operation (Fixing broken bones), to help with weight loss and arthritis and much much more. I love my job and our team, I really love seeing my clients everyday and being able to advise them and keep their pets fit and well. I can provide nursing consultations free of charge if you would like to pop down and book in. I provide services such as puppy/kitten check ups where we can discuss weight, diet, behaviour, socialising, dentition and neutering when the time comes. I also provide flea and worming treatment, nail clipping, a micro chipping service, weight checks (slimming world for pets), dental checks, pre operative checks and post operative checks. I look forward to seeing you all soon! Some of you may have seen me already, so please book in if you need me! Remember I am here for free of charge appointments for advise or you can call me at the practice on 01772 885038 :) See you and your pets soon!! Sophie-May :) x

Simon Johnson

Client Care Manager and Student Veterinary Nurse

Hello! I’ve been at Preston Capitol since we opened back in November 2013! I started as a Receptionist and moved on to be Client Care Manager. I am currently transitioning between this as I have started my Veterinary Nurse studies so you may see me in a few consultations as well as greeting you and your furry friends at reception.

I have gained my CA-SQP qualification, meaning I am able to prescribe certain medication to your furry and feathered friends. I’m always studying something new and am currently working on my rabbit certificate as I find them fascinating.

Once I qualify as a Registered Veterinary Nurse, I hope to go and gain my advanced nursing certificate and complete my emergency critical care module so I can give greater care and understanding to our patients and clients.

I have two cats, a fluffy white girl called Zelda who has one blue eye and one green eye (David Bowie cat!) and a three legged kitten called Skip See you all soon! J xx

Claire Simons

Client Care Manager

Claire joined us as a Receptionist but is currently training as our Client Care Manager and hopes to embark on her Veterinary Nurse training towards the end of 2016 and is very interested in specialising in exotics as she finds them fascinating.

Claire joined the team in January 2016 and has a 16 year background in Human Resources and more recently management but has wanted to work with animals since she was a child. She has devoted lots of her spare time to voluntary work with animals including a charity organisation that focuses on re-homing abandoned cats and dogs. She has also raised thousands of pounds in charitable donations over the years for several animal charities and organisations.

Since joining us early this year Claire has qualified as a first aider and is working towards gaining her SQP qualification which enables her to dispense prescription flea and worming products from our pharmacy.

Claire’s passion in life is to empower as many people as possible with the correct knowledge, understanding and methods of animal welfare in order to provide the best care for their pets and our wildlife. She currently has two of her own cats who where both re-homed as kittens and are now 7 years of age and beautiful too! She also has a Chilean Rose tarantula, which is a whopping 18 years of age and is very friendly too!

Sarah Harrison

Practice Manager

Hi I'm Sarah, Practice Manager and I've been working for Vets4Pets since November 2011.

I also work over at our sister practices in Preston and Lytham St Annes.

I have two dogs, Gizmo a shih Tzu cross and Doris a Yorkshire Terrier who I gave a forever after home to after she was brought into Easterleigh animal sanctuary a couple of years ago.

My favourite thing about coming to work each day is working with my fantastic colleagues that are like an extended family and seeing our lovely clients and watching their pets grow up.

Whenever you’re passing, feel free to drop in for a brew and a biscuit :)

Lucy Crompton

Apprentice Receptionist

Hello, my name is Lucy and I have been working at Vets4Pets since February. I am the apprentice receptionist here at Preston Capitol with an ambition of becoming a Veterinary Nurse in the near future. As an apprentice receptionist, I answer phone calls and book appointments, as well as greeting clients and answer any questions you may have. I am currently studying at Preston College in Business Administration at level 2. Although I've only been working here over a month, I really feel part of them team already! At home, I live with my 10 year old tabby cat Rascal, who lives up to his name! As well as having a love for cats, I also love exotic animals and enjoy seeing them here at the practice when they visit!

Carmen Chan

Student Veterinary Nurse

I am currently studying Veterinary Nursing, Bsc Hons at Middlesex University in London since Oct 2015, and started my placement at Vets4Pets in January 2016.

I have previously volunteered at other veterinary practices to gain experience before starting the course.

I also volunteered at the RSPCA every weekend to get use to the various animals to identify different types of behaviours. I was especially interested in the cruelty cases.

I previously studied an access course at Southport College in health studies which included biology and psychology.

I have always been interested in working with animals and do enjoy gaining knowledge as this educates me whilst on practice.

I currently have a black and white cat called Gladys and enjoy spending all my time with him when I am not in work, also in my spare time I enjoy travelling and seeking new adventures.  Hopefully when I qualify I would like to work aboard with larger species of animals.

Chloe Walmsley

I hope to hear from you soon, Chloe.
