Choosing the right food will do wonders for your puppy’s health

Food glorious food

If you want your puppy to grow up into a happy, healthy dog – and who doesn’t? – you must feed it well. Too much and it will become overweight, too little and it won’t have the energy it needs to grow. However, there is an overwhelming choice of food available so you may need a little guidance to help you get it right.

What to choose

Although there are many brands of dog food on the shelves, each making different promises about quality and nutrition, you should look out for food designed specifically for puppies. Your pet needs food that is full of energy, easily digestible and nutritionally balanced. You can switch to an adult dog food from one year old.

Little and often

The food packaging will give you a guide to portion size, and it’s important that you offer the right amount for your dog’s breed, size and weight. Because your puppy’s stomach is only small, it’s better to feed small amounts more frequently rather than one or two big meals. Always remember that your puppy also needs clean water round the clock.

Ask for advice

Different dog breeds have different nutritional needs, but at Vets4Pets we are always happy to talk through the options for your puppy and help you decide what’s best for your pet.
