Meet the team

Augustin is one of our senior Vet's and joint partner of Abbeywood Vets for Pets.
Growing up in the Romanian countryside, always surrounded by farm animals and pets, Augustin developed a deep connection with animals from an early age. He qualified as a veterinarian at the University of Iași in Romania and brings nearly 20 years of experience to his practice.
Augustin began his professional journey working as a medical representative for Royal Canin, gaining valuable insights into animal nutrition and healthcare. After moving to the UK, he transitioned into clinical practice and has now been a vital part of the Vets for Pets Bristol team for almost eight years. In the past year, Augustin became a proud partner in the practice.
His main areas of interest include dentistry, ophthalmology, and exotic pets. Augustin believes that every pet brings joy, laughter, and unconditional love—a philosophy that shapes his compassionate and dedicated approach to veterinary care.
Outside the clinic, Augustin enjoys an active lifestyle, with hobbies such as tennis, paddleboarding, and sailing.

I graduated from the University of Veterinary Medicine in Wrocław in 1996, where I later served as an assistant professor. My professional experience also includes working in several veterinary clinics across Poland. I hold a PhD in Veterinary Sciences, with a specialist focus in Animal Hygiene and Food of Animal Origin.
In January 2023, I was pleased to join this outstanding team.
Beyond my professional interests, I have a deep passion for travel, enjoying the opportunity to explore new places, meet diverse people, and learn about different cultures. Working with animals brings me great fulfilment, and I am committed to their care and wellbeing every day.

Ioana graduated from the University of Veterinary Medicine in Iași, Romania, in 2011. She began her career as a farm veterinarian, while also gaining experience in a small animal practice through volunteer work.
In 2016, she relocated to Bristol with her family and has since been working exclusively in small animal practice. Ioana has a strong interest in emergency and critical care (ECC) as well as surgery, and is passionate about providing compassionate, high-quality care to her patients.
At home, Ioana is kept company by her cat, Paco, who reminds her every day why she chose to become a vet. Outside of work, she enjoys spending time with her family and friends, gardening, reading, and taking long walks in nature.

Hayley is one of our Veterinary Nurse's. She joined us in February 2018 and is our weekend nurse. She has been qualified for 9 years. Previously she was a locum Vet Nurse and worked at a charity hospital which she says was a very rewarding job.
She is currently working towards her certificate and badge as an Oral Dental Care Nurse.
Her main focus outside of work is her 4 year old son which she loves to take away on trips regularly.

Ben joined us in February 2020 and has been working in the veterinary industry since 2013. He qualified as a Registered Veterinary Nurse in 2018 and was promoted to Head Nurse in August 2022.
Ben is passionate about providing the highest standards of care to all his patients. He particularly enjoys anaesthesia and surgery, finding all aspects fascinating—from routine neutering procedures to more complex operations.
Outside of work, Ben has a busy home life looking after his horses, cats, dog, and even a tortoise. He also keeps free-range chickens, many of which are rescued ex-battery hens.
In his spare time, Ben plays for a local football team every Saturday and is also a member of a nearby golf club. When he’s not being so active, he enjoys relaxing with a good bar of Dairy Milk chocolate.

Laura joined us in September 2022 as a Veterinary Nurse and is currently working towards completing her SQP qualification. She has a real passion for anaesthesia and surgery, and absolutely loves looking after all the small furries that come through our doors.
Laura’s favourite dog breed is the Springer Spaniel—which makes perfect sense, since she has one of her own called Henry who keeps her busy at home!
When she’s not at work, Laura enjoys reading, catching up with friends, and spending quality time with her two young sons who definitely keep her on her toes.

Jessica joined us in 2011 whilst studying Animal Care level2 NVQ and a BTEC Diploma at Filton SAS College as work experience. She has since been employed in the role of Veterinary Nurse Assistant & worked as part of the Receptionist team then became Head Receptionist and as of August 2022 was promoted to Practice Manager.
Jessica loves all the animals that come to the practice and especially their owners, with whom she loves having a friendly chat. She is always interested in what their four legged friends have been up to!
She took maternity leave in February 2018 and had a little girl , but after 8 months she was ready to get back to the work that she loves. Jessica has 2 British Shorthaired cats called Teddy & Peaches who she adores.
Jessica loves a good meal & enjoys trying all different foods but her favourite cuisine is definitely a Chinese! In her spare time she enjoys being with her family & looks forward to their holiday's each summer.

Karen is part of our reception team and joined us in 2011. Not only does she work here, she also works in one of the local primary schools as a LBS.
As a family Karen owns 12 ferrets which they show and also has a cat. She enjoys wildlife parks and zoo's. Her favourite animal is a Gorilla but unfortunately you don't get to see them at the Vets.
Karen is a keen supporter of Speedway and loves to visit her family who live in Cornwall & Devon.

Chelsea joined us in October 2021 as part of the Receptionist team, she has since changed roles and is now our Finance & client service Manager which she enjoys just as much as meeting all the lovely pets that come through the door !
Chelsea is kept very busy as home with her Daughter and 2 dogs named Winnie & Mellow which she enjoys taking for long walks by the waterfront. She also has a cheeky little pony called Rosalie who she takes to shows in the summer months.
When she has any spare time she likes to go to gigs & heavy metal festivals !

Chloe just recently joined us as part of the receptionist team where she previously worked at a lawyer firm but wanted to explore the Veterinary industry. She has so far loved meeting all our patients and their owners.
Chloe has 3 cheeky French bulldogs named Doris, Mabel & Captain who keep her on her toes and loves to take them on evening walks with her partner.
In her spare time Chloe enjoys spending time with her Niece & Nephews as she is that (cool Auntie! )

Rosie joined the team in June 2024 as a Receptionist and quickly became a friendly and familiar face at our front desk. She holds a BTEC Level 3 qualification in Animal Management from SGS College Filton and has a real passion for working with animals and people alike.
She takes pride in creating a warm and welcoming environment for every patient and their owner—and loves greeting pets with a treat and a cuddle whenever she can!
At home, Rosie is kept busy by her lively bunch of pets—four dogs, two ducks, and a cat! Outside of work, she enjoys spending time with her family and friends, relaxing with her animals, getting creative in the kitchen, and planning her next holiday.
Head vet and owner, Paul Guckian of Abbeywood Vets for Pets opened the surgery in July 2008 and we have now been open for 12 years!
We have 11 friendly staff members at the practice who are all part of a well driven team with the ultimate goal being to care for your beloved pets.
We are committed to bringing you affordable, high quality care via a modern, well equipped practice, including an in-house lab, pharmacy, digital x-ray and ultrasound, plus, on site car parking too!
We thank all our loyal clients who have been registered with us over the years and of course we are excited to meet new clients every day.
