Airway Surgery
Brachycephalic dog breeds such as French Bulldogs and Pugs make up some of the most popular dogs in the UK. The skull and jaw bones are shorter in these dogs, meaning that there is too much soft tissue in this area which makes air flow through the respiratory passages much harder. Dogs with significant BOAS (Brachycephalic Obstructive Airway Syndrome) often have difficulty breathing, exercising and sleeping, therefore widening the entrance to the nostrils and shortening the soft palate can help prevent life-threatening breathing problems. At Bristol Imperial Vets for Pets we are lucky to have vets who have a special interest in such cases and who are able to perform this surgery in house. To find out if your pet may benefit from this surgery, we recommend booking a free of charge airway assessment as the first step towards a treatment plan.
Ultrasound
We are pleased to be able to offer ultrasound scanning in practice, which is a painless way to look inside your pet’s body to find out what’s going on.

Meet the team

Dr Ana-Maria Mihailescu qualified as a vet in 2019 at FVMB in Romania and she has also acquired a masters degree in Veterinary Medicine.
Ana volunteered at the university and worked with mixed large and small animals in the field for several years.
In her free time, she enjoys being active outdoors, playing games and making handmade leather goods.

I graduated from the University of Bologna in 2016. After working in first opinion small animal practice, I completed a rotating internship and then a cardiology specific internship.
In 2022 I successfully completed with a merit a Master of Science by Research at The University of Edinburgh, working on endothelial dysfunction in dogs with myxomatous mitral valve disease.
I am currently studying towards a PhD at the University of Bristol, continuing my work on endothelial dysfunction in canine MMVD. However, I am interested in all aspects of cardiology.

Hi I’m Gökberk.
I’ve been working as a veterinary surgeon in Bristol for the past 2 years. I’m interested in surgeries but I love all aspects of my job.
I love all kind of animals but have a soft spot for cats. I’ve got 4 cat’s whose names are Pena, legless and rubeus with a new addition Jeff spud Gokceyrek which is of course another tabby.

Hi, my name is Lisa. I'm the Head Nurse and Practice Manager at Bristol Imperial and have been qualified for over 15 years.
My work interest include emergency and critical care, nurse clinics, feline behaviour, exotics and puppy parties. I have achieved various certificates which I put to use in the day to day running of the practice as we are lucky enough to see lots of different species of pets and have a varied caseload.
In my free time I enjoy meeting with family and friends, gardening, sewing and dancing. I have 2 cats, a tortoise and a number of hamsters.

I graduated from Hartbury University in 2019 with a BSc(hons) degree in Veterinary Nursing science. I started work at Bristol Imperial just beofre Covid-19 and although challenging, loved working with a great team of people who quickly became like family!
While working through lockdown I adopted a rabbit, Dusty who sparked my interest in all things rabbit! I now have a group of house bunnies, with Delilah, Dory and Dash causing regular mischief.
My favourite parts of nursing are inpatient, anaesthesia and of course rabbit care and welfare, both in and out of practice!

I started my animal career in 2008 completing a level 3 distinction diploma in animal management. In 2010 I went on and achieved a BSc National Diploma in animal behaviour and Welfare and in 2014 I completed my dog grooming course. I then began my working within Vets for Pets on August 2021.
I have always been around animals since a very young age and I believe this is what inspired me to pursue my dream of working within the animal industry. At present I have 3 Cocker spaniels which I adore as they all have individual characteristics and keep me on my toes, along with 4 Road Island red chickens that live in their own wendy house called Cluckingham Palace.
I have loved all the new challenges and opportunities that the practice has provided and I have loved getting to know all the friendly clients and their pets.

Hello, my name is Miriam and I am from Portugal.
I graduated in Portugal and I decided to do a challenging experience and here I am, working with this wonderful team.
Since I was a child I have always loved animals, especially horses, but at the end of the day they all need our care and my favourite aspects of the job is anaesthesia and surgical nursing.

Hey, I'm Paige, I graduated from RVC in 2017 and worked in London until I moved to Bristol in 2022. I have been interest in nursing medical patients, and love consulting and seeing all our clients!
At home I have a rescue dog called Deacon, two cats called Bella and Kovu, and a Hamster called Marble. Outside of work I can normally be found with my head in a book, or out exploring with the dog!

Hi there. I'm one of the Partners here at Bristol Imperial and have been running/managing vet practice now for almost 15 years.
What I love about the team here at Vets for Pets Bristol Imperial is that we really do pull together like a family unit. We all share the same passion for doing the very best for every patient and client who walks through our doors. Our exceptional teams will handle advanced and complex soft tissue/orthopaedic surgeries and intensive medical patients with the same passion as they will when they meet a brand new puppy or kitten coming in for it's routine vaccinations.
I simply could not be more proud of the team we have here - I know with confidence that every pet, be it with feathers, fur or scales will be treated with the same amount of care as if it were our own.
In my spare time, I enjoy spending time with my family, watching my two lovely daughters grow up in front of my eyes and looking after our 3 dogs, 2 goats, countless chickens/ducks/geese/quails, rabbits, cat etc.

I started at Vets for Pets on reception when they first opened four years ago. From our very first client, to our latest ones - I love meeting the variety of animals that come and visit. At Vets for Pets, we treat every animal that comes through our doors as we would our own and I'm always happy to provide cuddles and treats to make your pets as positive as possible.
I am our longest serving member of the team and takes a huge role in looking after everyone. I enjoy walking with my two dogs Marley and Albie and trying out new walks and spending weekends away with the family. I enjoy reading and spending time in the garden.

Hello! My name is Emma and I am one of the receptionists here at Bristol Imperial Vets for Pets. I joined here in August 2021 after spending nearly 30 years in the hospitality industry. I am in charge of all things care plan here at Bristol Imperial. I enjoy all aspects of my role here but my favourite part is meeting all our clients and see the range of animals brought in each day especially the babies.
In my spare time I enjoy cooking, spending time in the outdoors with my five dogs – ranging from a Border Collie to 3 Chihuahuas and a street dog I rescued from Romania. Finally most weekends I am usually supporting my daughter show jumping with our horse Dolly.

Hi I'm Beth and as well at working as a Veterinary Care Assistant, I am studying a Master's Degree in Clinical Animal Beaviour.
I enjoy exploring nature, baking and getting to say hello to every animal I meet!

“Hi, my name is Laura. I am one of the Veterinary Care Assistants at Bristol Imperial Vets for Pets. I joined the team after spending 10+ years in the zoo industry, specialising in husbandry of reptiles and amphibians.
In my spare time I look after my own menagerie of animals; I have two cats, three snakes, two geckos and a lizard. I also enjoy doing cross stitch, crafts, gaming and going to the cinema.”

Hello, I'm Sarah and I have worked in hospitality for 20 years and wanted a complete change of career path.
I started here in May 2023 and I love to meet all of the animals on a day to day basis.
In my spare time I love spending time with my son and my Jack Russel Terrier.
