Airway Surgery

Brachycephalic dog breeds such as French Bulldogs and Pugs make up some of the most popular dogs in the UK. The skull and jaw bones are shorter in these dogs, meaning that there is too much soft tissue in this area which makes air flow through the respiratory passages much harder. Dogs with significant BOAS (Brachycephalic Obstructive Airway Syndrome) often have difficulty breathing, exercising and sleeping, therefore widening the entrance to the nostrils and shortening the soft palate can help prevent life-threatening breathing problems. At Bristol Imperial Vets for Pets we are lucky to have vets who have a special interest in such cases and who are able to perform this surgery in house. To find out if your pet may benefit from this surgery, we recommend booking a free of charge airway assessment as the first step towards a treatment plan.

Ultrasound

We are pleased to be able to offer ultrasound scanning in practice, which is a painless way to look inside your pet’s body to find out what’s going on.

My name is Nilze and I'm pleased to introduce myself to you as the Clinical Director and Head Vet at Bristol Imperial Vets for Pets.

I am an experienced Veterinary Surgeon having qualified in Ankara in 2017. I have also completed further advanced training and achieved a 'Masters in Surgery' in 2022. Furthermore in 2018 I undertook additional training in the University of Wien in physical therapy and rehabilitation.

Whilst I love meeting my clients and building long lasting relationships with them and their lovely pets, I do thoroughly enjoy surgery. During my time in Ankara University's completing my masters degree and 7 years of surgical experience in a large animal hospital, I truly valued being the trusted Vet for so many clients for having restored their much loved, fury family members back to health.

I am able to perform all levels of advanced surgery which would normally require you needing to have your pet referred to very expensive referral hospitals. By me being able to do these advanced surgeries here at Bristol Imperial Vets for Pets, it removes any additional stress for you and your pet. We can handle the entire process in-house enabling you to relax in the knowledge that your pet is in very experienced and capable hands. The additional bonus is, by not needing to refer externally, we can save you a lot of money.
I have a lot of experience in a wide range of surgeries from routine neutering to orthopaedic procedures and all soft tissue surgeries. In addition to this, I can also provide acupuncture and have found this to be incredibly successful for elderly cats and dogs with chronic pain.

In my spare time, I love to be with my family having recently become a mother myself and enjoy hiking and cycling.

I'm thoroughly looking forward to meeting you when I start my new adventure at Bristol Imperial Vets4Pets during December 2024.

I graduated from Hartbury University in 2019 with a BSc(hons) degree in Veterinary Nursing science.  I started work at Bristol Imperial just beofre Covid-19 and although challenging, loved working with a great team of people who quickly became like family!

While working through lockdown I adopted a rabbit, Dusty who sparked my interest in all things rabbit!  I now have a group of house bunnies, with Delilah, Dory and Dash causing regular mischief.

My favourite parts of nursing are inpatient, anaesthesia and of course rabbit care and welfare, both in and out of practice!

I started my animal career in 2008 completing a level 3 distinction diploma in animal management. In 2010 I went on and achieved a BSc National Diploma in animal behaviour and Welfare and in 2014 I completed my dog grooming course. I then began my working within Vets for Pets on August 2021.

I have always been around animals since a very young age and I believe this is what inspired me to pursue my dream of working within the animal industry. At present I have 3 Cocker spaniels which I adore as they all have individual characteristics and keep me on my toes, along with 4 Road Island red chickens that live in their own wendy house called Cluckingham Palace.

I have loved all the new challenges and opportunities that the practice has provided and I have loved getting to know all the friendly clients and their pets.

Hi there.  I'm one of the Partners here at Bristol Imperial and have been running/managing vet practice now for almost 15 years.

What I love about the team here at Vets for Pets Bristol Imperial is that we really do pull together like a family unit. We all share the same passion for doing the very best for every patient and client who walks through our doors.  Our exceptional teams will handle advanced and complex soft tissue/orthopaedic surgeries and intensive medical patients with the same passion as they will when they meet a brand new puppy or kitten coming in for it's routine vaccinations.

I simply could not be more proud of the team we have here - I know with confidence that every pet, be it with feathers, fur or scales will be treated with the same amount of care as if it were our own.

In my spare time, I enjoy spending time with my family, watching my two lovely daughters grow up in front of my eyes and looking after our 3 dogs, 2 goats, countless chickens/ducks/geese/quails, rabbits, cat etc.

I am our longest serving member of the team and takes a huge role in looking after everyone. I enjoy walking with my two dogs Marley and Albie and trying out new walks and spending weekends away with the family.  I enjoy reading and spending time in the garden.
