Dr Dan Makin
Practice Owner & Veterinary Surgeon
BVMS CertAVP(SAM) MRSB, FRSM, FRCVS, RCVS approved Advanced Practitioner in Small Animal Medicine
My name is Dan and I am the Practice Owner here at Vets for Pets Poole Holes Bay. I am delighted to welcome you to our page and hopefully to my clinic. I am privileged to work with an amazing group of vets, nurses and receptionists to offer 'top notch' care for all our patients. I am originally a northern boy from Manchester and moved to Poole in 2009. I love it here! I qualified from Glasgow University in 2003 and since then have spent time working in mixed, equine, and small animal practice.
I lived in New Zealand for two years working in a large equine hospital before returning to the UK to take up full time work as a small animal vet. In 2019 I completed the RCVS Certificate in Advanced Veterinary Practice in Small Animal Medicine. I have a real interest in medical conditions affecting cats and dogs with a special interest in hormonal disease and gastrointestinal conditions.
I have a keen interest in the veterinary profession and am passionate about creating a good workplace for my team to work in and helping the profession as a whole improve on this through my membership of several diversity and inclusion working groups.
In 2019 I was accredited by the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons as an Advanced Practitioner in Small Animal Medicine.
In 2025 I was honoured to be awarded Fellowship to the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons for meritorious contribution to the profession.
Sara has been a member of the practice team for over 20 years and works Thursday and Friday mornings. Sara is originally from Spain and has lived in the UK for many years now.
Sara has two children and 3 degus and isn't sure which keeps her most busy!!
Sara has a keen passion for preventative medicine and also has special interest in little furries (rabbits, hamsters, guinea pigs etc)
Outside the practice Sara enjoys singing and going for long walks foraging for tasty bits for her three degus!!
Hi my name is Sami and I qualified as a vet from the university of Liverpool in 2023. In my spare time, I love anything that gets me outside, including running and hiking. This is what took me to New Zealand for a year as a new graduate vet, where I worked with dogs, cats, many cows and the odd possum! Having travelled New Zealand from top to bottom, I have now returned to Dorset to be closer to family and look forward to meeting you and your lovely animals.
Dr Rachel Jeans
Veterinary Surgeon
BVSc MRCVS
I graduated in 2024 from the University of Zagreb in Croatia and am now settling into life in the UK as a vet. I’m mostly interested in internal medicine of dogs and cats, but being a "veterinary newbie," I’m still exploring different areas of the field.
I have an old Maltese, a fish tank, a few tortoises, and some Australian finches, but they’re all back in my hometown - so in England, I’m pretty much flying solo at the moment!
When I’m not working, I enjoy reading, especially books on psychology and sociology, always looking to understand people (and pets!) a little better. I love hiking, hitting the gym, spending time outdoors, and, of course, traveling. Whether it’s exploring new places or hanging out with friends, I value my balance of adventure and quiet time to recharge and reflect.
Born and raised in Zimbabwe, I then qualified as a veterinarian in South Africa, where I spent two rewarding years working in mixed animal practice. In August 2025, I made the move to Poole, UK—a place close to my heart as it's where my grandparents grew up.
When I'm not caring for your pets, you'll likely find me during sunrise and sunset anywhere outdoors. I'm thrilled to be part of this community and look forward to providing compassionate, quality care for your beloved animals.
I have been qualified as a veterinary nurse since 2011 and still loving every moment. I also have hold a level 3 certificate in hydrotherapy. At home I have my crazy cocker called Ralph and cat called Nellie and 4 guinea pigs. I became the clinical lead nurse in 2023 after coming back from a short locum stint. I'm really enjoying learning new management skills and pushing my team to be the best they can be.
Originally from a human nursing background, Vicky started working at the practice as a nursing assistant in 2010.
After gaining valuable experience she completed an ABC level 2 Certificate for Animal Nursing Assistants in 2014. Finally, Vicky went on to complete her veterinary nurse training and qualified as a registered nurse in 2017.
Vicky has a keen interest in dog behaviour and is especially fond of German Shepherds. One of her favourite pass times is dog walking and she enjoys exploring new places. Vicky is also very interested in nursing care of our senior patients, she is striving to improve client education and provide ongoing nursing support of these patients via nurse clinics.
She has two cats called Millie and Maggie, and cares for two horses called Ronnie and Chino. In her spare time, she has a feral son to keep her busy! And enjoys walking and being outdoors.
Qualified in 2018, I have worked in First Opinion and Referral practices where I mainly focused on surgical nursing. Now at Vets for Pets, I enjoy nurse consults and medical nursing care. I have two rescue German Shepard crosses; Skye and Shadow. In my spare time I love to bake or be on my spin bike.
I am an ANA here at Holes Bay. I love animals, and own horses, cats, tortoises and a dog. I enjoy making sure the patients get lots of love and fuss when they have to stay and when not at work I enjoy sewing in my free time.
I have been working here at Poole Holes Bay Vets for Pets since November 2021, having previously worked at another veterinary practice for 2 years. I love working with animals and love the team I work with. I'm a mum of 2 boys... 1 is human, the other is furry! The furry one, Stanley, is a 3 year old English Bull Terrier. As a family we are always doing something - walks in nature, playing football (Stan's a budding centre forward!), trips away, and raising money for a local hospice that's very close to our hearts.
I joined the Vets for Pets team in August 2022, after I fancied a change from my previous job of working in a primary school.
I have a strong interest in making the Veterinary world a more accessible and inclusive place for everyone. (Probably driving my colleagues mad with resources I find, ideas I have and apps I make them download on the practice phone!)
In my spare time I love reading, swimming and being outside in nature. (As long as any wriggly, creepy crawly things with 6 or more legs stay out of my way)
Josie joined the team with Vets for Pets in 2022 after working in two veterinary practices in the area since 2016 and loves working with all the girls on reception here at Holes Bay. She loves working with animals and especially enjoys a cat cuddle whenever possible with our inpatients. Josie has two cats at home, one is an older black cat called Arya and one is a little maniac tuxedo cat called Dwight who is now 1 year old. She enjoys spending her time with her daughter, partner and friends getting outside paddle-boarding and playing cricket and also taking part in any type of crafting. She is also an avid reader and her favourite hobby is curling up with a good book and a cup of tea.
My name is Lynne and I have been at Vets for Pets Holes Bay since January 2024, after working at the Bournemouth branch for a while. I work full-time for an electronics company, just working here Fridays and a couple of Saturdays. I love having the balance of doing something completely different. I enjoy meeting and chatting to people with their pets. I have 6 house cats myself, this is Harry pictured. In my spare time I enjoy socialising with friends and gardening.
