Veterinary Surgeon & Partner

Read Fiona Coutts bio

I'm Fiona one of the JVP's in the practice and I have worked here since 2013.  I qualified in 2004 at Edinburgh Vet School and have worked in West Yorkshire since 2005.  I have an Advanced Certificate in Feline Behaviour (icatcare) and enjoy the medical side of my job, especially dealing with elderly cats.
As with most people in the profession, I wanted to be a Vet ever since I was young and enjoyed helping to look after our family dog.  Now I own a cat called Ripley who takes after her namesake and is a force of nature.  I enjoy helping to alleviate peoples worries and concerns about their pets and also being an advocate for pets and their welfare.
Outside of work I am a film nerd and also love reading. I am currently learning to play the drums and also like to learn new crafts.

I'm Chris, vet and joint practice owner with Fiona.

I qualified from Liverpool University in 2009 and spent 18 months working in rural Scotland before moving back home to Yorkshire and eventually became a practice owner here in 2017.  I completed a post graduate certificate in small animal surgery in 2022 and I'm a few months away from finishing my second certificate in diagnostic imaging later this year.

I'd wanted to be a vet from an early age having been brought up with loads of pets at home as well as being a regular horse rider when I was younger, these days I spend my time seeing clients in practice and performing as much surgery as I can get my hands on. I particularly enjoy passing on what I've picked up over the years to the newer generation of vets and nurses!

I spend my time away from work relaxing at home with Fiona and Ripley our rescue cat, I'm a keen amateur cook so I'm always trying out new recipes.

Veterinary Surgeon

BVetMed MRCVS

Read Alice Earnshaw bio

I’m Alice, I am a local girl and grew up in Wakefield. I graduated from the RVC in 2013 and I have worked in small animal practice since then.
My favourite aspect of veterinary work is surgery, particularly soft tissue surgery. I generally love learning new things and I am always trying to update my knowledge in all areas of practice.
Outside of work I’m often chasing around my 3 dogs, cat and young son, all of whom conspire to keep me very busy! When I do get a breather I love to read fiction, cook, garden, and listen to history podcasts.

Angeliki Flaouna

Veterinary Surgeon

MRCVS

Read Angeliki Flaouna bio

Hi, I'm Angeliki! I graduated from Greece, in 2024 and have been enjoying every aspect of small animal practice ever since.
To be honest, becoming a vet probably wasn't a surprise to anyone who knew me growing up. As a child, I had a habit of bringing home any animal that crossed my path—stray cats, injured birds, hedgehogs, you name it. My parents became very skilled at asking, "And where did this one come from?" as I often tried to sneak new patients into the house, feed them, and look after them until they were back on their feet!
One of the best decisions I made during university was getting my pug, who is now seven years old and still convinced she's the centre of the universe. Living with her has made me appreciate even more how special the bond between pets and their owners can be, and it's one of the things I enjoy most about being a vet.
My main professional interest is diagnostic imaging, particularly ultrasound. I love the investigative side of veterinary medicine and the challenge of piecing together clues to find answers for patients who can't tell us what they're feeling. Ultrasound feels a bit like detective work—every scan reveals another piece of the puzzle, and I find it incredibly rewarding when it helps us reach a diagnosis and improve a pet's quality of life.
Outside of work, I enjoy keeping active and going to the gym—not because I love burpees, but because it helps me feel good and stay balanced. I'm also a huge fan of TV series and films, and I have accumulated subscriptions to so many streaming platforms that I've stopped counting! When I need a break from busy life, I love travelling to small villages, exploring new places, and enjoying a slower pace of life. Give me a quiet village, good food, a beautiful view, my dog, and I'm happy.
I look forward to meeting you and your pets!

Read Hannah Smart bio

Hi, I'm Hannah, the lead medical RVN and clinical supervisor at Wakefield Westgate. I qualified in 2021 through the College of Animal Welfare, but started in the industry twelve years ago. I joined Vets for Pets Westgate in 2023.
My favourite part of the job is medicine and partaking in schedule 3 procedures. This can include dental scale and polishes and minor surgical procedures such as lump removals, aural haematomas, wound repairs and toe/tail amputations.
I am the diabetic advisor for the practice and I enjoy ensuring owners are put at ease if challenged with a new health condition that needs medical management.  As a clinical supervisor, I take on student nurses helping to train them up on practical skills and knowledge for when they qualify.
At home, I enjoy gardening and baking. I have three dogs, a Labrador called Millie ( Dogtor Millie as seen under the vets!), a Lhasa Apso called Poppy and a Lhasapoo called Arthur. I also have a cat called Mavis, who is best friends with Arthur.

Registered Veterinary Nurse & Lead Surgical Nurse

RVN Cert VNECC, ISFM CertFN, C&G CertEVN

Read Rebecca Green bio

Hi, I'm Rebecca and I am the lead surgical RVN - which means I am responsible for the surgical side of the practice, ensuring your pets anaesthetic runs as smoothly as possible. To help with this, I am currently studying for the Advanced Certificate in Anaesthesia. I qualified in 2015, and joined the practice in 2025. I also have extra qualifications that I have gained over the years, including the Exotic Nurse Certificate, ISFM Certificate in Feline Nursing and the Emergency and Critical Care Certificate.

I chose veterinary nursing because I wanted to help animals, and speak for those without a voice. I love being on the surgical side as every anaesthetic is different, with no two patients the same. I also really enjoy the challenging cases and having to think on your feet!

I have three pets: two cats called Cosmo and Wanda, and a new rough collie puppy, Magnus that takes all of my time at home! You may also see him around the practice occasionally! I also really enjoy reading and going for dog walks in my spare time.

Leanne Gilding

Head Receptionist

Read Leanne Gilding bio

I’m Leanne the Head Receptionist for the practice and I’ve worked here for 9 years now, prior to that I worked in the Pets at Home store for 6 years (I’ve worked in the same building for 15 years!)

I have 4 cats, all of them I’ve taken home from work as kittens, with 3 of them needing to be hand reared and bottle fed. But I’ve had many other pets over the years including rats, rabbits, a chinchilla and way too many fish to count.

In my spare time I like to play video games with my friends and plenty of crafting. The craft of choice changes very often and there are a lot of unfished projects… I’ll get back to them eventually!

Kirsten Carter

Receptionist

Hi, my name is Kirsten. I am one of the receptionists at the practice.
I chose to work in the veterinary industry as I've worked for many years in retail, which wasn't very fulfilling, I wanted to feel like what I was doing had a purpose. I weirdly enjoy the admin side of things and also the pets, let's be honest they are the real reason I wanted to work here!
I have two cats. A greedy Ginger cat named Gimli who is a menace when he knows it's close to dinner time and Tobi who is spends most of his time trying to wind Gimli up just for the fun of it.
In my spare time I am a professional craft collector. I love to draw, crochet, cross stitch, make cards and make jewellery, plus much more. It's a bit out of hand to be honest, but nothing is more relaxing than crafting in bed whilst watching a murder documentary.

Animals have always been at the heart of my life. From helping pets as a kid to gaining hands‑on experience as a student vet nurse and VCA, I’ve built a career around supporting their wellbeing. Now, as a veterinary receptionist, I’m the first friendly face clients meet, and I love making their visit as smooth and reassuring as possible.

At home, my cat Jackson is my favourite companion — we spend our evenings relaxing together, and he’s a daily reminder of why I love what I do. Every animal I meet brings a little extra joy to my day
