Contact the surgery on our normal phone number and remember to have a pen and paper ready. You will be given a contact number for our out-of-hours service to phone. The vet will ask you a few questions about your pet's condition and may advise some immediate first aid care. The vet will then arrange to meet you at the out-of-hours clinic should this be necessary. Standard consultations before 9pm start from £167. Standard consultations after 9pm start from £215.

Antony started work in Portsmouth in 1998 after graduating as a vet from Onderstepoort in South Africa. In 2001 he and Mackie started the partnership in the Portsmouth surgery which has grown to an association of practices in the Solent area (Portsmouth, Fareham Park Gate, Fareham Collingwood and Waterlooville surgeries). He has a special interest in exotic pets. He and his wife have a son and a border terrier.

Mackie graduated in 1998 from Onderstepoort in South Africa before working as a vet in the peak district in Derbyshire. He joined Companion Care Vets in Portsmouth in 2001. Together with Antony, he is a partner in associated practices in the Solent area (the Portsmouth, Fareham Park Gate and Waterlooville surgeries). Mackie is married to Jess, also a vet, who worked in the Fareham Park Gate surgery for many years. They have two children, Zoe and Jake, two cats and a Labrador.

From his early school days, Dux used to volunteer on weekends at the local SPCA in South Africa. As a veterinary student, he worked part time at an exotic animal hospital and volunteered at an International primate rescue organization (IPR) and Vulpro birds of prey sanctuary. After graduating in 2012 from Onderstepoort in South Africa, he worked at a small animal hospital in Randfontein, South Africa before moving to the UK in 2013 when he joined us. He also worked in the Companion Care Vets Fareham Collingwood and Companion Care Vets Fareham Park gate sister surgeries. In 2015 he transferred to the Companion Care Vets Colchester to advance his experience in orthopaedic surgery. In 2016 he rejoined the Waterlooville and Portsmouth surgeries to further his experience in exotics. Dux has a keen interest in exotic animals and would one day like to specialize in exotic wildlife medicine and surgery. He currently volunteers at local wildlife rescue centres on his days off. He is presently also studying part time for Elizabeth Whiter’s Certificate in Natural Food Animal Remedies course with a specific interest in the field of zoopharmacognosy. Dux lives in Waterlooville with his dog, Merry who came over from South Africa with him. Outside of work he enjoys indoor and outdoor rock climbing, fire dancing, reading, travelling, hiking and meditation.

Donna qualified in 2000 and has been with the team since 2003. Donna has been head nurse since Nov 2014 and is enjoying the new challenges this has brought. Donna is one of our Diabetes nurses and really enjoys getting stuck into Dentals. Donna spends her time at home with her husband and son, and the waifs and strays that she adopts.

Kirsty started nursing in 2008 and qualified in 2011. Kirsty is our Deputy Head Nurse and enjoys inpatients and coaching our students. Kirsty has worked in small animal practice her whole career and in 2012, was lucky enough to work for Fitzpatrick Referrals. She relocated to Havant in 2015, with her fiancé, her Chihuahua, Milo and recent addition, Louie, a small cross breed dog.

Since then I have had a keen interested in helping the next generation of nurses with their studying and became a clinical coach December 2014. I have a keen interest in soft tissue surgery and small furries. At home I have three guinea pigs, two house rabbits, a cat, two bearded dragons and a chameleon.

Kayleigh joined the team in Jan 2018, having qualified in 2015. Kayleigh moved to the area after working in a 24 hour hospital where she gained lots of experience in operations and emergency care. Kayleigh has a keen interest in behaviour and anaesthesia so is looking forward to sharing her knowledge with staff and clients. Kayleigh currently shares her home with her sister, and both of them are over thrown by Spice, their British Short Hair cross.

Nikki Perry

Nikki is keen to learn more about medical conditions that animals suffer from. In particular, she is interested in renal failure and blocked bladders. She also enjoys inpatient care and making the animal feel comfortable when they are here. Is your pet’s fur looking knotted and scruffy? Nikki loves grooming and dematts. Outside of work, she is a very keen horse rider and has been riding for 8 years now.

Dan Lougher

Dan has always loved animals having dogs and cats since he was young, so he knew a career helping animals was where he belonged. After volunteering with the practice in 2014, he started work in the nursing team and has recently started studies towards becoming a qualified veterinary nurse. He has two dogs Holly, a chocolate Labrador and Roxy, a Rottweiler cross. They can be a bit of a handful. Holly is the scavenger trying to get food wherever she can, and Roxy loves to play tug of war and wreck all her toys within the first day, but he could not live without either of them.

Amy joined the Reception team in May 2015. Amy has come to us with almost 12 years of experience in customer service and administration, and has worked the past 5 years in a local community centre. Amy is passionate about all animals and is especially getting involved with our wildlife patients. Amy has enjoyed playing mama bird to the youngsters and we think has enjoyed taking them home to her husband (who has a slight fear of birds). At home Amy spends most of her time looking after her very spoilt and pampered family: a Springer cross Labrador called Coco, two rats called Morpheus and Neo, as well as her husband

Melanie Graham

Mel originally trained in credit management but after the birth of her twins in 2006, she joined our nursing team, and qualified in 2013. You may see Mel in two different roles within the practice; Mel is not only one of our qualified nurses but is also the reception manager and enjoys the challenges this role has brought her. When nursing Mel has an interest in endocrine disorders, particularly diabetes, enjoys holding nurse clinics and loves getting teeth as pearly white as possible during dental procedures.

Rhiannon has always adored animals and she says that having the opportunity to work with them has been brilliant. Rhiannon joined us in July 2015 and has a customer service and admin based background which she finds really helpful with her new role. "I’ve learnt so much since I started - the team I work with are amazing and so supportive. Before I started as part of the Companion Care team I was a client myself. I feel this is a great advantage as I now know how it feels to be both sides of the desk and try to help the owners and their pets as much as I possibly can." At home Rhiannon has two crazy beagles Rodney and Katie, and are treated like her babies; Rhiannon and her fiancé take them everywhere.
