Meet the team

Dr Kathy Senior
Veterinary Surgeon & Practice Owner
BVM&S GP CERT (SAM) MRCVS
I opened the vet practice in Burgess Hill in 2013 with a group of like-minded friends and colleagues. Our goal was to create a practice where patients get exceptional medical and surgical care, with the compassion that we, as pet owners, would want for our own pets.
I have been working in Surrey and Sussex as a Veterinary Surgeon since 2000 after graduating from Edinburgh University Vet School. My previous experience varied from small village vets to large veterinary hospitals and also time at an animal emergency medical centre in Australia.
I was awarded a certificate in Small Animal Medicine in 2011, which reflects an increased level of ability and interest in treating dogs and cats with medical conditions. I thrive on the challenge on trying to work out what is wrong with a patient when their owners know intrinsically that ‘something is up’. Clients are so tuned-in to their pets. I couldn’t be the vet I am today, without my clients, who pick up on those subtle changes. They know when a much loved member of the family is telling them that they are not OK.
I always wanted to be a vet, spending much of my childhood in Africa with a menagerie that Gerald Durrell would have been proud of! I try to devote some of my time to helping animals in need and have worked for animal charities in Spain and India. Now I work with local charities closer to home, including the RSPCA in Brighton and Paws and Claws.
I am fortunate enough to share my life with my husband Glen, four (naughty) dogs and a cat that thinks she is a dog.
In my spare time I enjoy running (or more honestly enjoy feeling smug post run) and anything to do with water. I ran the Brighton Marathon for Sussex Wildlife Trust a few years ago. I also enjoy a good countryside dog walk especially if there is a pub at the end of it!

Dr Emily Bridges
Head Vet
BVM BVS (Hons) BVMedSci (Hons) ICF accredited coach MRCVS

I graduated from Glasgow University Veterinary College in 1984 and since then have worked exclusively in small animal practice. I started my career as a young Scottish vet in Crawley and progressed into a management role. This position included supervising and training the younger vets and nurses and solving problems.
My main veterinary interests and skills are with the smaller pets: rabbits, ferrets and cats. I love my role in Burgess Hill as it allows me to concentrate more of these animals which I am passionate about. I am proud that we are able to provide them with such a high level of care. We are constantly updating our treatments, anaesthesia and surgical techniques for these species as our profession learns more about what works best for them. This is vital as I seem to have developed quite a following!
My husband and I (who is also a vet) have been involved in charity work with cats for many years and helped set up a neutering clinic on Mustique, an island in the Caribbean. At home we have the challenge of managing our woodland property to provide enough wood for our house heating system. We have dogs, cats and hens for company. We try to live as ecologically friendly a life as is possible.

I qualified as a Veterinary Surgeon in 1985 from Glasgow University. Since then I have worked in small animal practice developing a particular interest in surgery.
Prior to moving to the surgery in Burgess Hill, I devoted a great deal of my time to neutering for the RSPCA as part of a mobile cat unit. Over the years our team neutered well over 20,000 cats, which is an achievement that I am quite proud of! We continue to work closely with the RSPCA at the Burgess Hill practice, by providing weekly vet visits to their Patcham Shelter and any treatments or surgery needed for the animals at the kennels.
I am the Senior Operating Vet at Burgess Hill and devote all my time these days to surgical procedures. I have a great deal of experience in orthopaedics including hip surgery, cruciate and patella surgery. I enjoy mentoring the younger vets teaching them surgical techniques to help them develop and gain in confidence.
I am of course married to Karen, who also works at the practice. I share in looking after our collection of wonderful pets. In my spare time, I have my own engineering business, where I make and repair all manner of things including surgical instruments. I also use these skills to help a national charity called Remap who support disabled people by providing the equipment they need to live a more independent life.

Dr Lucinda Blackledge
Senior Veterinary Surgeon
BVSc PgCert SAM PgCert DI (Imaging) MRCVS

I studied at Nottingham University and graduated from the Veterinary Faculty in 2020. I have worked in small animal veterinary practices in Sussex since. I enjoy many aspects of veterinary life but in particular, I love medicine and diagnostic imaging.
I take pride in being incredibly thorough in my work and I enjoy looking back at veterinary literature to improve my knowledge when required for a case.
Outside of work you will find me volunteering for a local Girl Guide unit. I also enjoy spending time with my family and friends, including my German Shorthaired Pointer Ava.

I have been a veterinary surgeon for the last 27 years having working in both the UK and Australia. I have a particular interest in surgery.
In my free time I enjoy outdoor pursuits including surfing, paddle-boarding and mountain bike adventures in the South Downs. I still follow rugby union but I stopped playing several years ago, after realising the valve of fully functioning fingers for surgery!
I live locally with my family and three dogs, four cats, two axolotls, four gold fish and a tortoise.
An Axolotl is an amphibian that lives in the water and is endangered in the wild.

Dr Chelsea Crossingham
Veterinary Surgeon
BVetMed MRCVS MSc Conservation and Biodiversity (Distinction) BSc Zoology
I graduated from the Royal Veterinary College in London in 2022 and kickstarted my career at a charity practice in Kent. I then moved back to Brighton, my home town. My lifelong passion is for animals and the natural world. My academic journey started with a degree in Zoology and this lead me to spend several enriching years as a field research volunteer with the Marine Turtle Conservation Project in Northern Cyprus.
When I'm not busy caring for animals, you’ll find me indulging in quality time with my beloved Pekingese Monty, often grooming him to perfection. I delight in experimenting with new baking recipes alongside my young nephews. I enjoy scenic walks, honing my drawing skills and capturing the beauty of wildlife through my camera lens.

One of the most rewarding aspects for me of being a vet is the opportunity to consult with clients and really get to know them and their pets. Building relationships and offering tailored care appropriate for each patient has always been at the core of what I do.
In addition to my veterinary work, I am deeply passionate about nature, conservation and sustainability. These values have always influenced my approach to veterinary care, as I believe in promoting the well-being of animals, whilst also considering the broader impact on our environment.
After stepping away from clinical practice for a few years to explore other veterinary roles, I’m excited to be returning to what I love. Working directly with clients and their pets again, and bringing my enthusiasm, and commitment to high-quality care back to practice life.
Outside work I relish a good walk with my spaniel exploring the Sussex countryside. and I am looking forward to getting involved with local community activities as I settle into the area.

I qualified from the Royal Veterinary College in 2012 and spent 6 years in full time small animal clinical practice before moving into veterinary education. I spent 6 years supporting veterinary students on their five year degree course, teaching everything from dentistry to bandaging, cardiology to consulting and anything in between!
I gained Fellowship of the Higher Education Academy during this time, and found my love and passion for mental health and human factors in the veterinary profession.
I am two thirds of the way through a Master’s degree in Human Factors and Patient Safety and I am now self-employed, juggling locum work, human factors consultancy work, providing an at home pet euthanasia service, writing my dissertation, and raising both a human child and a Labrador!
In all my spare time (!!) I enjoys baking and sewing clothes for myself and my daughter.
