Meet the team

My name is Emma Smith and I qualified from the University of Edinburgh in 2013. I had always known that I wanted to be a vet ever since I could remember and I worked hard to get into vet school as soon as I left my final year of high school. After several years working as a general practitioner in small animal practice I decided to become a Joint Venture Partner with Vets4Pets after having worked at another practice since 2016.
I am currently studying for a certificate in advanced veterinary practice and am very interested in dermatology.
I live at home with my twin toddlers who keep me on my toes.

Dr. Emma Bateman
Clinical Lead & Veterinary Surgeon
PgCERT SAECC BVETMED MRCVS

Dr. Raquel Duarte
Veterinary Surgeon

My name is Jeng Shin but I go by Jen, I was born in Hong Kong then lived in Malaysia. I’ve qualified from the university of Edinburgh in 2023 and have since made the city my home.
Unfortunately, I have yet to have a fur baby of my own but I am an aunt to various dogs and primary carer for my fruit and vegetable plants.

Aimee has been working in practice since 2009 and qualified from Edinburgh’s Telford College in 2013 after completing placements at a small animal practice in Edinburgh and GUVS Small Animal Hospital.
She has worked at Vets4Pets since qualifying. She has a very keen interest in feline nursing and a soft spot for geriatric feline patients in particular.
She completed the ISFM Certificate of Feline Nursing with distinction in 2018.
In her spare time she enjoys spending time with her family and friends and is kept on her toes with her young daughter and her cat, Poppy.

Isla is a Registered Veterinary Nurse who qualified in 2022. Before joining this practice, Isla worked in the charity sector, where she gained a wide range of clinical experience. Isla particularly enjoys anaesthetic monitoring and carrying out Schedule 3 procedures. At home, she is kept on her toes by her mischievous kitten, Joey!

After serving Queen & Country for 26 years as a Senior Supply & Logistics Officer in the Royal Fleet Auxiliary, seeing combat in the Falklands Conflict and the first Gulf War, and as a Staff Officer at Portsmouth Naval Base for the last 7 years of my career, I decided to come ashore in 2003, for the quiet life and to spend more time with the family!
Of course life isn't like that and after working as a broadband tech for O2, customer service with the likes of Amazon, Sky and British Gas, as well as owning and operating several businesses, I finally found myself inside the veterinary profession as a complete wide eyed newbie.
Massive learning curve later our practice has now been growing for the last 6 plus years and I am greatly enjoying this latest part of my life.
The family have always had dogs, usually a wee Yorkie, but we have had a couple of large German Shepherds too in recent years.
No pets in my home currently but I still get to "share" my son's dog, cat and smallies on occasion.

Hello, since graduating a Psychology and Sociology degree at Edinburgh Napier University, I have worked at Vets4Pets Craigleith for a couple of years. All my life I have been surrounded by and loved by animals. I have spent my life giving that love and care back to the animals. I am currently doing a Veterinary Care Assistant course hoping to progress into Veterinary nursing soon.
I have recently fulfilled my dream by becoming a dog mum to a beautiful, smart and sometimes very mischievous golden retriever, Ace. Since then my days and most of my free time have been filled with a lot of exploring, training, laughter and cuddles.
Since starting this job, I have learn so many new, interesting things and met so many lovely people and animals. I know that visits to the vet can often be stressful and worry-some and that’s why I hope to make this experience a little better along the way. Our clinical stuff truly does go above and beyond to provide the best service possible to your beloved fur babies and I am proud of being a part of the team.

Hi, I'm Abbey. The final year of high school gave me the opportunity to embark on a challenging yet rewarding fundraising journey. By raising just over £6,000 for a small volunteering company, they helped open the doors to a rewarding project in China, where I taught English to enthusiastic students, an experience that left a deep impact on me.
While I cherished my time in China, my ultimate dream has always been to work with animals. The joy and fulfillment I find in caring for my two dogs and three cats have fueled this passion. Their presence has always brought me comfort, and the love I share with them is truly special.
These diverse experiences have shaped me into a compassionate and determined individual who believes in the power of making a positive impact wherever I go. Despite the adventures and challenges, my heart remains set on a career focused on working with animals, a lifelong dream that continues to drive me forward and I couldn’t have asked for a better team to work with.
Thank you for taking the time to learn more about me. I am excited to pursue my aspirations, spread kindness, and make a meaningful difference in the lives of both you and your beloved pet.

Hello, I’m Jenny. I grew up with rabbits, cats, dogs, and horses, which sparked my lifelong love for animals. Later on, I competed in eventing with horses and went on to work professionally with trotting horses. These experiences have given me a deep appreciation for the special bond between people and animals.
I have a BA in Criminology, and my background has taught me the importance of compassionate care and clear communication. I’m dedicated to supporting pet owners by making every visit to the vet as calm and positive as possible. I truly enjoy helping clients feel informed and comfortable throughout their pet’s healthcare journey.
Outside of work, I love hiking and spending time outdoors with my staffy puppy Benji, embracing the joys and adventures that come with life in nature. I’m proud to be part of a team that genuinely cares about your pets and look forward to welcoming you and your furry friends.
