Dr Clare Bartram
Practice Owner & Veterinary Surgeon
BSc PhD BVSc CertSAM MRCVS
Clare took a somewhat unconventional route into the veterinary profession having first undertaken a degree, PhD and finally a post-doctoral research position in Biochemistry before embarking upon her true vocation as a Veterinary Surgeon. She graduated from vet school at the University of Liverpool in 2001 with a distinction and joined a busy veterinary hospital in St Helens, where she practiced for the past 12 years. In 2009, Clare attained a Royal College Certificate in Small Animal Medicine; as a result of this, undertook referral cases in Internal Medicine and she now has a particular interest in liver and kidney disease, especially management of chronic cases to maximise quality of life.
In opening Vets4Pets Penny Lane, Clare's goal is to bring the discipline and best practices from her previous experiences to a warm and welcoming local surgery delivering the highest standards of patient care. When not at the practice, Clare lives in Liverpool with her partner, Simon and her beloved rescue German shepherd dog called Teddy and adopted cat Lucas. Clare enjoys her job enormously and takes great satisfaction from providing a quality service to both clients and patients.
Nicola qualified from Bristol University Veterinary School in 1997. She has worked in first opinion practices in the Liverpool area since then. She has worked at Vets4Pets Penny Lane since 2017 and loves working for a practice with such high clinical standards of care. Nicola enjoys all aspects of veterinary medicine and always strives to provide the best level of care possible to all her patients. She also has a keen interest in mental health in veterinary professionals and is the practice's Mental Health First Aider.
At home, Nicola lives with her husband and two children, who are also completely animal mad. Not forgetting her 8 year old crossbreed dog, Chloe, who is a very important family member!
Sylvia qualified from Liverpool University in 2021. Prior to training as a vet she worked for the NHS as a scientist, however the interest to work with animals remained. She has a particular interest in ultrasonography and is currently working toward a post graduate certificate in Diagnostic Imaging.
Her pets include a lurcher called Teds and a tabby cat called Bruce.
Steve qualified from Liverpool Uni in 2001 where he studied alongside our very own Clare, they then proceeded to work together in another practice and he has remained in the northwest since. Steve has now followed his protégé Sylvia (one of our other vets) and joined the Penny Lane team in June 2024 to work with Clare once again. His pre-veterinary background in Zoology and biological research means he has a very broad range of professional interests; baking and Radio 6 music fill the remainder.
Steve has his own menagerie at home including an Italian Spinone called Claude and a Herman Tortoise called Toots.
Prior to joining the Penny Lane team in February 2016, I worked at Rutland House Veterinary Hospital, where I began my veterinary nurse training in 2004. After qualifying in 2006, I worked initially in the first opinion side of the practice, then as a referral ward nurse, an oncology nurse and also practised physiotherapy.
From a very young age I have always been passionate about working with animals and I hope to bring that enthusiasm, together with the skills that I have developed over the years in practice, to my new family at Penny Lane.
I have a particular interest in animal rehabilitation & physiotherapy. Outside of work I live with my husband and our little Mogwai Pippin who we rescued when he was 3 & 1/2 weeks old. He has a heart condition so he sees a cardiologist regularly.
Louise transferred to us from another Vet4Pets practice. She has years of experience and has a keen interest in small furries. Her interest and enthusiasm with rabbit care has led us to become more 'rabbit friendly'. Louise is due to start her Advanced Programme VNZES - Small Mammals soon to further her knowledge.
Natalia joined the team in May 2021 and finished her nursing course with us to become an RVN. She has previously completed a BSc in Wildlife Conservation and Ecology, worked in Botswana and is also a qualified marine mammal medic. These interests have led her to become our ‘Green Champion’ and push to make our practice more environmentally friendly as part of the groups ‘Our Better World Pledge’.
Natalia has a rescue cat called Chan, a small group of Amazon milk frogs and to some, an unhealthy amount of house plants.
Natalia enjoys working with a wide range of species and her previous experiences have brought a unique perspective to the team.
Outside of work, Natalia classes herself as a ‘nerd’ and spends her evenings playing computer games and Dungeons & Dragons but also enjoys paddle boarding and camping.
Kate became a registered veterinary nurse in July 2022. She has worked within the Vets4Pets practices throughout her training including doing work experience with us when she was only 17! More recently she has transferred to us from another local branch.
She has always had a passion for animals ever since she was little so being an RVN has always been a dream of hers!
She has a passion for consults, enjoys learning about exotic animals and hopes to be able to work alongside safari animals one day! She has a cat called Oliver who is a very grumpy boy and a Cavapoo called Mo who is her little angel.
Outside of work Kate enjoys travelling around the world and is very artistic.
Sara is our most recent addition to the team and we're excited to have her join us.
She dedicates a lot of my time to animals and as well as being a Vet Nurse, has been volunteering at a local cat rescue for over 8 years! She has two rescue cats called Newt and Astra and a rescue Giant African Land Snail called Biggie!
Sara has a keen interest in nurse clinics and enjoys weight management the most -she loves seeing her patients achieve goals that are good for their health.
In her spare time, she enjoys being out in nature, photography and travelling with her husband. One day she would love to volunteer with Moon Bears in Vietnam!
Coming soon.
Emma joined the team in 2019 after working in our Speke practice for 2 years. Her role with us has been a mixed one, starting as one of our reception team and now plays a larger role as a veterinary care assistant. She really enjoys the more hands on approach with animals that is part of this new role.
Outside of work Emma enjoys walking her 'wonkey donkey' Labrador, Bear, with her family
Originally from Poland, Adela is currently studying to be a Registered Veterinary Nurse.
She moved to Liverpool to study zoology and after graduating began working in an emergency veterinary clinic. Working in such a fast paced environment made her passionate about the profession and in making a genuine change to pet health and welfare. Once qualified, Adela would love to further her knowledge in critical care by one day completing an ECC certificate.
In her spare time Adela enjoys all that life has to offer. She loves cooking new recipes, exploring new places, going to the theatre, climbing, paddle boarding, going on zip lines... and of course cuddling up with her deliciously fluffy cat George
Kayleigh has worked with animals for 15 years. She started her career in rescue centres and kennels and is now one of our veterinary care assistants.
Kayleigh has an interest in exotic animals, especially reptiles and enjoys walks with her family and spending time in nature; she’s also a qualified dog groomer.
Kayleigh is looking forward to starting her veterinary nurse training with us in the near future.
Laura has joined us recently from a busy veterinary hospital in Liverpool where she worked for over a year. Her interests include dealing with any and all dogs but she is also now a fan of guinea pigs!
A big part of Laura's life is her family. She has a young son, her dog Solo, a bearded dragon Echo and a turtle named Buddy.
Laura is looking forward to starting her training as a veterinary care assistant.

Stephen started working as an RVN and then Head Veterinary Nurse within a local practice. Prior to joining the Penny Lane V4P team, he taught Veterinary nursing and Animal care apprenticeships for 5 years.
As our practice manager, Stephen is responsible for the day to day running of the practice from a business point of view and he is looking forward to furthering the close relationship that we, at Penny Lane, have with our clients.
Stephen has two dogs, 4 cats and 2 cockatiels at home which keep him busy!
Claire has worked at Penny Lane since we opened in 2013. She enjoys meeting all kinds of different people and their pets but also enjoy getting stuck into the business side of the practice. In her free time away from work, she enjoys spending time with her husband, daughter and scruffy dog called Eddie who is 'the biggest baby in the world'.
Christine joined us in 2016 but has worked with Vets4Pets for 10 years as a receptionist Originally, a beauty therapist Christine decided to change direction and really enjoys the client care side of the job. She also loves getting to meet all the adorable pets and cuddling puppy's .
Christine has two cats Lucy who is 18 and Dewy, 6. Growing up she had every pet imaginable which is where Christine found her love of animals. Outside of work, Christine will usually be running around after my three sons, getting outdoors and doing lots of walking. One day, when she has more free time, she'd love to adopt another cat and until then she will steal some cuddles from those visiting us.

Rachel has worked with us since 2016 . Her main role in the practice is in administration. She has previous experience as a veterinary care assistant and kennel assistant and in total has worked with animals for over 15 years!
Outside of work, Rachel has two children to occupy most of her time and although she doesn't have any animals at present, she has previously owned and still has a huge love for rats
My name’s Rebecca and I am originally from Luton but I am currently studying in Liverpool. This is my first experience working in a veterinary practice and I am thoroughly enjoying myself whilst learning a lot. I have worked in multiple fields from hospitality to dentistry and I feel that the great team here and the vibrant environment makes this job feel a lot less like work. Throughout my childhood I have been surrounded by pets so I feel right at home here!
