Stephanie Rayner Viner

Practice Owner & Veterinary Surgeon

I became interested in becoming a vet from a very early age as I was always surrounded by animals as a child. My father owned a circus and so it was never a surprise to be shown a snake, a baboon or a tarantula! In addition to this, we had many more conventional pets and I quickly realised that what I wanted to do when I grew up was treat them. I graduated from Liverpool University in 2008 and have spent the last few years enjoying veterinary practice near my home in North Wales. In the future I hope to specialise by pursuing a further qualification in a small animal discipline. Currently at home I have four cats, an Alaskan Malamute, two pythons, two goats and a few hens, so quite a lot to be getting on with! When I'm not working I enjoy foreign travel and learning new languages (currently French). I am also a fluent Welsh speaker and can offer consultations in the medium of Welsh if required. In my spare time I enjoy swimming, going to stand-up comedy and concerts, eating out and having fun with friends.

As a child I was interested in all aspects of the natural world and hoped to work with animals for a career. Over decades I gained experience from all types of kennel work at all levels, from the charity kennels of the NCDL as head kennel maid to quarantine kennel manageress. I also have decades of experience as a KC dog breeder, exhibitor and judge. After qualifying as a veterinary nurse in 1999, I remained in my training practice for a further 10 years, most of those as head nurse. My work has taken me around the country and I settled as a permanent night nurse in a referral hospital some distance from home before joining the great team here in Bangor. Currently I am kept company by two cats, a dwarf hamster and three white silkie chickens.

From a young age I have always wanted to work with animals. I had four years of experience as a trainee nurse before gaining my qualification at the end of 2015 and became a Registered Veterinary Nurse. I joined the Vets4Pets team in April 2016. In 2021 I obtained a certificate in Emergency and Critical Care. I love my job and am always eager to learn new things. I currently have a collie cross poodle named Bowie and a welsh pony named Alan.

I have been with Vets4Pets Bangor North Wales since we opened in March 2014 as part of the reception team, and in 2017 I was given the opportunity to progress and carry out my training as a Student Veterinary Nurse at Coleg Glynllifon. Qualified in 2020, I am now a Registered Veterinary Nurse, and I continue to enjoy working alongside such a friendly and dedicated team. I personally love how no two days are ever the same! Outside of work I am owned by a lively and lovable spaniel, and I enjoy spending time with my family and friends and reading up on exotics and animal behaviour.

Prior to joining the Vets4Pets team I attended Glynllifon College where I studied BTEC Level 3 Extended Diploma in Animal Management. During my course I carried out extracurricular activities to promote conservation along with animal health & welfare, also including multiple experiences that became recognisable throughout the area in the agricultural industry. My work was rewarded in 2016, when I was awarded Student of the Year, later on that year I was rewarded for my efforts by being LANTRA’s Learner of the year 2016 at the Royal Welsh Show. As a passionate carer for animals I have always been interested in the Veterinary industry and look forward to extending my knowledge further by studying BVSc Veterinary Science in the future. For the intervening period my plan of action is to gain as much quality experience that will assist me in my journey to becoming a veterinary surgeon. I consider myself lucky to work alongside individuals that all provide something different that makes Vets4Pets Bangor NW an excellent team
