Practice Partner & Veterinary Surgeon

HI all,

Thank you for taking the time to find out a little bit more about me!

My adventures as a vet started at a very young age, I come from a farming background with my parents living on small holding in Cheshire.  We had all sort of animal growing up, chickens, ducks, turkeys, quails, cattle and sheep. Not to mention cats, dogs and a tortoise.

I attended Liverpool University and obtained my qualification in Zoology and then Veterinary medicine, graduating in 2006.

I got my first job in an  "All Creatures Great and Small" practice in Rugeley seeing  cows, sheep, dogs, cats and horses at all hours of the day and night. After two years I decided to focus down my clinical work to small animals. Shortly after this I took the biggest challenge of my career to go it alone at the age of 29 and opening my very own practice here at Shelfield with Vets4Pets.

The practice opened it door in July 2010 and I have been very proud to watch our team grow and practice mature into a super place where it is a joy to come into work every day. I am extremely grateful for my husband Andy joining the team to help bring some additional support in running the practice to a high standard.

Working in my own practice has allowed me to do so much more that I could have imagined. I have been able to undertake further qualification in surgery and orthopaedics, allowing me to join the RCVS register of advanced practitioners.  During 2020 and over the pandemic I undertook a sabbatical to work at another local Vets4Pets practice to help developed their team.  As for the future I am currently working towards a certificate in veterinary small animal medicine.

Outside of work my I keep busy with my kids and our ever growing household of cats. We currently have five cats that have migrated to their forever home after being found as stray. In addition we have acquired 3 tortoises, not to mention my husband's tropical fish. Finally not forgetting our Border Terrier Fern. My guilty pleasure is my car, which you may was see in the practice car park form time to time.

I hope when you come to see me at Shelfield I can give you open and honest care for your pets. I would like to ensure we can do as much in general practice to find solutions to even some of the more tricky cases.  I look forward to working on here at Shelfield Vets4Pets for a long time to come.

I took my dog Zack Saturday morning after a sudden onset of him being very unwell with diagnosis of haemorrhagic gastroenteritis being made by Sally . Zach is an elderly dog so Sally was concerned with how severe his symptoms were . My dog was treated with IV fluids ,steroids and antibiotics immediately … I collected him 4 hours later much more responsive and it was obvious he was on the mend. Thank you soooooo much Sally for your professionalism and kindness …. Zack’s well happy too ????????????”

I enjoy all aspects of small animal medicine and my specific area of interest is in soft tissue surgery, internal medicine and my overall favourite; Dermatology, in which I am currently undertaking a certificate.

Outside of work I have 3 dogs (Ulfric, Rex  and “Puppy”). 3 cats (Sausage, Rasher and Muffin) and a load of chickens.

I cannot rate Vets4Pets Shelfield highly enough, 10 stars wouldn't be enough!

From the moment you walk through the door you and your pets are made to feel welcome and comfortable. I love that they always put our animals welfare first  and they take extra care to make them comfortable as well as treating them medically.  Our cat, Ten was always extremely anxious about going to see a vet but now he loves his appointments, Pierce is his absolute favourite. Check out the photo and see how chilled Ten is sitting on the scales! Thank you Pierce for curing Tens stubborn ear infection and for being so considerate of me being so emotional over my poorly 14yr old cat.

Thank you to all the staff at Vets4Pets Shelfield, you are all absolute Stars!

Pierce is also my daughter's dog's favourite, she was really happy.

I graduated in 2023 from Ankara University and moved to the UK nine months ago. My decision to become a veterinarian was inspired by my cat. After adopting him, I realized my passion for animal care and committed to this rewarding career. I find joy in sipping lattes and taking nature walks accompanied by music.

Just to say a big big thank you to Sally and her nurse for coming out to put my 19-year-old much-loved Cat out of her pain and into a peaceful sleep. It was a hard and horrible decision to make but poor Daisy had come to the end of her journey. I couldn't bare the thought of dragging her to the vets for one last time so Sally offered to do a home visit. It was so nice to be able to say goodbye to Daisy in familiar surroundings with all her loving family around her. She had such a dignified and privileged passing. I was so impressed by Sally and her nurse's professionalism and kindness. I would recommend this practice to anyone who has a much-loved pet. Again many many thanks Emma Guinan xx

I love cuddling my puppy Coal and spending time with my family/friends, when I'm not fussing all the patients we see at our practice.

Andy

Hello!

I have been part of the practice at Shelfield Vets4Pets veterinary practice indirectly since the launch in 2010. During those times up until November 2021 I was a Countryside Ranger working for Staffordshire County Council managing Country Park Estates covering visitors centres with premises management, work parties, emergency situations, public liaison school group visits with volunteer coordination and Rights of Way, specialising in Great Crested Newt conservation and mitigation helping to develop the open spaces and the communities within the North Staffordshire region.

My training leading up to this point was practical based, learning my craft through Agricultural college leading to completing my degree at Chester University in Countryside and Environmental Management. Much of my learning has been real life and field based operations providing a practical and direct approach to managing people and infrastructure for the right reasons.

Since November 2021 I fully came onboard joining the team at Shelfield bring my experience of providing a caring and inclusive attitude to help staff on their journeys through work providing support, social inclusion and a caring working environment where everyone is appreciated and cared for. Furthering my training for the team I have become a Mental Health first aider being a support body for people to reach out too.

Bringing apart of my working history forward I have initiated the practice in working towards the “Investors in the environment” campaign to play our bit in showing thought and compassion for what we do as a business and how to reduce our waste output and carbon footprint.

We aim for our practice to be community based hoping to get to know our clients well and playing the part of binding the local community together. Carly Bown

After a scary experience with our little dog Lexi, I called on a Saturday and got an appointment almost straight away. Reception staff were lovely. Vet who saw Lexi was so friendly and calm ( I am sorry I didn't get name but do know she was from Romania as we were chatting ) . She explained everything in detail and took her time with Lexi. Exactly how a vet should be , amazing with Lexi , wonderful with people and made our little one better. Thank you.

We recently had to have our beautiful 16 year old cat put to sleep. Lola received excellent care from Sally and the Team over the last 9 years. When the time came to say goodbye, the staff were empathetic, patent and kind. Would not hesitate to recommend this practice.

Since moving to the area around a year ago, we have used this vets many times for a number of our pets. Every visit we are greeted by the friendly staff on Reception who remember us and ask about the other pets, making sure we're all doing okay. Sally and Pierce have been literal life savers for our babies and we couldn't be happier with the care they give to us and our animals when we need them.
