Maggie Doherty DVM MRCVS GP CERT (SAM)

Practice owner & lead surgeon

I graduated with Honours in 2003 from the University of Wroclaw, Poland. Since 2005 I have worked in a number of practices throughout the UK, gaining a wealth of experience and developing my general practice and surgical skill set. In 2015 I was delighted to have passed my post graduate certification in General Practice and Small animal medicine. (GP Cert (SAM) I also have a strong professional interest in soft tissue surgery and diagnostic imaging (Ultrasonography).

I love my work and patients too, indeed I wanted to be a vet from the age of 5 so I have now fulfilled my childhood ambitions of running my own veterinary surgery. I'm delighted to have succeeded in this ambition in the beautiful market town of Buckingham. Within 2 years of opening my first practice, with the support of the Vet Group I’m now the proud owner of my second practice in Bicester!

Outside work, I am an accomplished ballroom dancer (though I struggle to find time amid my busy schedule) and enjoy Zumba fitness and spending time my young family (2 boys and 1 girl). I previously owned a Weimaraner(Casper) and German Pointer (Sara). Many of you will have met my lovely Chihuhua Dr.Chico who regularly attends surgery with me in Buckingham.

I look forward to the continued success of our practice and bringing the excellence in veterinary care we provide to the people and pets of Buckingham & Bicester.

Michael Doherty

Manager/Receptionist

As a former licensed aeronautical engineer, I know the importance of a safety critical profession. Veterinary is like no other profession, when taking care of your pets you want to know they’re with a team that passionately cares about their safety and wellbeing.

I left aeronautical engineering in 2007 whilst studying law and became more involved with the veterinary world and my wife’s profession. In 2014 Maggie decided to open her first Veterinary practice in Buckingham. I jumped at the chance of assisting her with the day to day running of her surgery.

Previously I’ve been a keen runner, having completed nine marathons with a personal best of 3hrs 4mins. In 2003 I ran the London Marathon and the following morning the Boston Marathon to raise money for a children’s orphanage and Great Ormond Street Hospital. Throughout my training I had my trusty Weineraner ‘Casper’ for company, a dog who was amazing fun. Sadly I lost him to cancer at the tender age of seven.

I’m looking forward to meeting you and your pets at our Buckingham and Bicester surgeries!

Student Veterinary Nurse

Hi! I am Kirstin and I’m a Student Veterinary Nurse here at Vets4Pets in Buckingham. It has always been my dream to work within a Veterinary Practice and I can tell that I made the right decision in my career choice.

I love talking to and helping people, even more so when I get to look after and cuddle cute pets at the same time! I have successfully passed my 1st year of Veterinary Nursing and hope to be qualified by summer 2017.

My interest in working with animals started at a very young age and as a result I have gained certificates in Animal Care and have experience in different animal environments such as Veterinary Practices, kennels, reptile shops and farming.

At home I have a Chocolate Labrador called Skye who is absolutely bonkers but I wouldn't be without her! Outside of work I love spending time with family and friends, walking the dog and watching rugby! I look forward to meeting you all and your pets!

Lydia Hayward

Student Veterinary Nurse

I am Lydia, one of the Veterinary Care Assistants here at Bicester Vets4Pets. Working in a veterinary practice has been something I have always wanted to do since a young age and I am loving every part of my role as I learn something new and exciting every day. I recently completed a Level 2 diploma in Animal Management which helped me gain experience with many different types of animals including reptiles, livestock and zoo animals. I also gained experience working in kennels, catteries and animal rescue centres, making sure the animals all had the best stay possible.

At home I have a whole variety of pets including my dog Alfie, a German shepherd who is a regular at the vets due to his allergies and loves all the friendly staff here. I also have a Rabbit, Leopard Gecko, and 2 mad cats.

I look forward to gaining plenty more experience here at Vets4Pets and expanding my knowledge even further as I learn new and exciting skills from the Nurses and Vets.

Receptionist

This is my first job in a veterinary surgery, I absolutely love it, meeting all your pets and of course our lovely clients. I have always dreamed about working with animals and here I am at Vets4Pets, making that a reality!

Animals are a big part of my life and I’ve been a vegetarian since the age of 11. Outside of work I have a house rabbit called Milo, I also have a Cocker Spaniel called Bella who typically is very cheeky. I love both of them so much and cannot imagine life without them.

I love spending time with my family and pets and going on holiday. One of my previous jobs was working as an air stewardess and working in a local hospital. I do yoga in my spare time with my sister to keep fit.

To gain experience working with animals I used to volunteer as a Dog Walker at a local animal rescue shelter which I enjoyed very much. I can’t wait to meet you all, please do say hello when dropping into the surgery!

Sofia Gadbury

Receptionist

Hi! I’m Sofie and I am one of the Receptionists here at Vets4Pets Bicester. I grew up on a farm in Sweden, and my love for animals developed early on as I was helping my dad out every morning before school with anything from letting the horses out from the stables, feeding the pigs or carrying hay bales out for the sheep.

I started working here in February 2017, and I’m loving every minute that I get to spend with my team and our lovely clients. My dream, from a young age has always been to be in a work environment that involves animals.

In Sweden I chose to study Psychology at College, but have since decided to pursue my dream to one day become a Veterinary Nurse or Care Assistant.

I love getting to speak another language every day and find it to be a good challenge for me, as I love languages. I also studied German and Swedish Sign Language at School.

In my spare time I enjoy going on long walks in Ashridge with my husband and 1-year old Border Terrier Tirzah. Tirzah means ‘She is my delight’, and she certainly knows it too! I also enjoys going home to the old farm visiting family, friends and of course .. all the animals!

It is my pleasure to be able to help you and your lovely pets out here at the surgery.
