Meet the Hemel Hempstead vet team

Javi JVP Hemel Hempstead

Javier Bernal MRCVS

JVP and Veterinary Surgeon

Javier qualified as a veterinary surgeon in Spain where he worked for a few years before moving to England. He has worked in different practices over the country, including Cambridge, London, Colchester and Peterborough. He has always worked in small general practice and is well known for the special care and attention he dedicates to his patients. Extremely vocational about small animal medicine, he loves every four legged creature and he is especially passionate about cats. He has got two at the moment, Lola at home, and Sebastian at the practice.

JVP and Practice Manager

Elena came to the veterinary industry from a legal background. She has always loved animals and has enjoyed the friendship of tortoises and dogs in the past. She is loving the experience of working in a full of emotions industry, where every day is different, and sharing it with a very hard working team so devoted to the animal welfare.

She currently shares the parenting of two cats, Lola and Sebastian, who she loves dearly.

Veterinary Nurse

Ever since she was just a few years old Maya wanted to be a Veterinary Nurse, and she started her nursing career in 2011. She has a large passion to help all animals, big or small, furry or scaly. Her main fields of interest are small animal surgery and exotic pets, and would love to specialise in one of these routes one day.

She has two doggies at home: Ajax, a big soppy Staffie cross, and Casper a deaf Jack Russell cross chihuahua. What she enjoys to do on her free time is to walk Ajax and Casper and working on her car.

Student Veterinary Nurse

Lydia has always loved animals and starting training to be a Veterinary Nurse in 2015. She loves all kinds of animals, especially cats, and loves all of the animal cuddles she gets on a daily basis!

She has two cats at home called Jimmy and Smokey, as well as recently re homing two little kittens, who she hand reared since they were a day old, who are now called Socks and Phoebe.

Some of you may have already met Sarah, who's recently joined Vets4pets as a receptionist. Sarah loves animals and working with them is something she had always wanted. She enjoys horse riding and also volunteers for the Gaddesden Row Riding for the Disable Association. She has previously worked in the hotel industry and she's currently loving her job, the team and that at the practice no day is the same!

Kellie joined Vets4Pets Hemel in July 2012 and since then, there has not been a day gone by that she does not mention how much she loves the job! Kellie loves to learn new things and enjoys the different variety every day brings to work. 

She has previously fostered cats, dogs and Rabbits, and is also the proud owner of 2 dogs, 1 cat  and two children. however since working at Vets4Pets Kellie has gone on to adopt 3 more cats including a Kitten she hand reared from birth! 

She adores pets and children and is well known for bringing a smile to work every day, making a fuss of the animals and  giving them a treat on reception, welcoming the customers, helping put them at ease and answering people’s questions.

Sebastian Hemel Hempstead



Sebastian came to Vets4pets in August 2012 and felt completely at ease within the practice. He loves sitting at reception and catching the eye of all of the clients.

His main interests are staff motivation, showing off on Facebook pictures, cuddles and food begging, supervision of procedures and patients. His role is under continuous development and he currently has two human pets, Javier and Elena, who he fell in love with the first time he saw them.
