Meet the Kingswood Vet Team

Catherine Spence JVP kingswood

Catherine Spence

Veterinary Surgeon and Partner Owner

After qualifying from Bristol University, I have worked in several practices in Berkshire. Although I started my career in a mixed farm and companion animal practice, I soon realised that my main interest was in treating cats, dogs and other small animals.

When I was offered the chance to set up my own surgery with Vets4Pets in Kingswood I leapt at the opportunity to return to Bristol. I have loved meeting our new clients and their varied pets, and I am really impressed at how friendly everyone is around here.

I live locally with my husband, Simon, our lovely, but demanding, cat called Ash, a slightly nutty Collie cross called Spindle and three very mischievous Degus. We have two sons who live independent lives but come and visit us from time to time! We spend as much of our free time as possible walking in the local countryside.

My main professional interest is in medicine, and I have recently completed a GP certificate in small animal medicine which has helped me to keep up to date with current thinking. However, I enjoy all aspect of this wonderfully varied job.

Veterinary Nurse

I  have lived and worked in and around Bristol all my life and love living here! I have grown up in a house that has always had pets from guinea pigs, cats and dogs all the way up to horses! I qualified from Langford Vet School in 2011 and have been working in small animal practice since. The parts of my job I enjoy the most is feline nursing (or mini-tiger taming!), greeting all the gorgeous, fluffy four-legged pets that come in to see us and medical inpatient care, in particular, elderly patients.

At the moment I have four awesome fish and a very special cat called Smidge. My favourite breed of dog is dachshunds (sausage dog) and in my free time I am a keen cake maker and love creating things with my sewing machine.

Registered Veterinary Nurse

I joined the V4P Kingswood team after spending 14 years nursing within a small animal practice in Bristol. I started nursing from the young age of 16 and have enjoyed every part of my career but I felt a change was needed and after meeting the team at V4P Kingswood I knew this was a practice I wanted to be part of.

The colleagues and clients have been fantastic and have made me feel at home from day one. I love every aspect of my job but I have great interest in animal dentistry, I even had the honour of assisting with a dental procedure on a lion at Bristol Zoo!

I grew up on a farm in Siston and have always had pets ranging from horses, Guinea pigs, rabbits, cats and dogs. I even had two chipmunks for a short while and an amazing pet cow called Minstrel! I now live with my partner and I am kept busy with our 5 year old son, our dog Pedro and our two Guinea pigs Eyebrows and Elvis!

I have completed a degree in Animal Management and whilst studying got the chance to volunteer at a range of animal care establishments around Bristol.

Currently, I have a cat a little ginger cat called Diego but growing up I always had a home full of pets ranging from lizards and tortoises to gerbils and rabbits.

I love getting to meet and give cuddles to all the animals that come into the surgery. In my spare time I enjoy baking and trying out new recipes on my family and friends.
