Devan Watkins

Practice Manager

Hi, I'm Devan and I'm the Practice Manager at Vets4Pets Merthyr Tydfil. I have been here at Vets4Pets since the surgery opened in February 2016 and absolutely love it here as every day is different and my job is so rewarding.

I have had a love of animals from a very young age & started my career in a veterinary practice when I was 14! I started at the vets on a two week work experience for school and left with an Animal Nursing Qualification nine years later. I am very passionate about animals and their wellbeing and couldn’t see myself in any other job! I have a gorgeous Welsh Collie called Dougie who is my pride & joy. He is a qualified PAT dog, absolutely loves children and comes to work with me every day so you can usually find him behind the reception desk curled up in his bed.

At home I have two rescue cats Dusty & Diego. Dusty was a feral Cats Protection kitten who I healed back to health after having his head stuck in a liquid bin for 4 days, hence the name Dusty-bin! Diego was dumped at a local reservoir at 4 weeks of age with a broken leg, luckily a dog walker found him & brought him to the vets where I fell in love with him. I also have three Syrian hamsters called Rory, Rio and Rex. Plus three calling ducklings called Reggie, Flo & Mabel, which were bought for me as a wedding gift.

In my spare time I enjoy taking Dougie on long walks, going to the cinema, reading & looking after my in-laws pets which include Welsh cobs, Shetland ponies, chickens, four dogs & two cats.

I got married in June 2017 so I am currently settling in to married life. I look forward to meeting you & your pets!

Zoe James RVN

Registered Veterinary Nurse

My name is Zoe and I am the Registered Veterinary Nurse at Vets4Pets Merthyr Tydfil and have been here since September 2016.

I have been around animals all my life and for as long as I can remember all I wanted to do when I grew up was become a veterinary nurse. I began my career in the veterinary industry in 2010 and was then lucky enough to begin my nursing training with Abbeydale Vetlink Veterinary Training LTD, finally graduating with the Level 3 Diploma in Veterinary Nursing and becoming an RVN in June 2016.

I love my job and enjoy all aspects of Veterinary Nursing but have developed a keen interest in medical nursing and nurse consultations over the years.

Outside of work I am kept very busy with my own animals. I currently have Marley my cat who came to live with me as a rescue after being dumped in a box as a very poorly kitten and Foxy my horse who I regularly compete and train in dressage with.

When I am not busy with the animals I enjoy spending time with family and friends, watching films and box sets and relaxing. I am very excited to be part of the team at Vets4Pets Merthyr and am looking forward to meeting all your furry family members soon!

Melanie Owens

Veterinary Care Assistant

Hi, I’m Mel and I have been working at Vets4Pets since January 2017 and so far loved every minute!

I am working as a Veterinary Care Assistant however one day I would like to train to become a veterinary nurse. This is my first time working in a veterinary practice however I have a lot of experience working with animals and spent my childhood on a dairy farm. At home I have two rabbits, Bunny and Smudge. I’m rabbit mad and would have many more if I had the space. Outside of work I enjoy reading, travelling, socialising and spending time in my hometown Pembroke. I look forward to meeting you and your furry children.
