Vets4Pets Newport

Meet the Newport vet team

Vets4Pets Newport Surgeon Pic

Paul and Cath McCarthy

Cath and I met in our final year at Vet college in London back in 1999. Shortly after getting together, we were engaged and then I moved to the other end of the country where we pursued different vocations; I was in a mixed practice in Barnsley and Cath here at the Usk Veterinary Centre doing only domestic pets. Having both worked in a number of separate practices, I then opened as the sole partner of Newport Vets4Pets in May 2008. The practice has successfully grown since then and we have recently taken on another Vet (Nora Jaykka-Dixon). This growth has been due to the hard-work and dedication of the Newport team.

Veterinary Surgeon and Practice Owner

Having become fully certified as a vet in 1999, I have worked most of my career here in Newport. From 2001-2008 I worked under the tutelage of Mrs Morris at Summerhill before opening up Vets4Pets in 2008. Since opening we have strived to gain excellent standards of care to people’s pets and been here as a support for clients. We have been nominated, by our clients, for practice, vet and receptionist of the year.

Veterinary Surgeon

I qualified as a veterinary surgeon in 1999 from the Royal Veterinary College. I have worked solely in small animal practice and particularly enjoy surgery. I joined my husband Paul at Vets4pets in October 2009. Outside of work my passions are gardening, running and our nine year old son Jack.

I graduated in 2009 from Porto University, Portugal, my home country, and have been working in small animal practice ever since.

I moved to the UK back in 2013 and found a second home in South Wales. I have a keen interest in feline medicine, something that I will be exploiting from the week beginning October 22nd, when Newport Vets4Pets begins cat only consult sessions. I also have 2 cats of my own, Mavis and Milo.

In my free time, I love to travel, chill and spend time with my loved ones and my cats:) I look forward to meeting you!

Head Veterinary Nurse

I gained my degree in Veterinary Nursing Science in 2006 and since then I have worked in both first opinion and referral practices.

I have a keen interest in rehabilitation therapies and anaesthesia, emergency and critical care. In 2011 I gained my Nursing Certificate in Anaesthesia and Critical Care from the European School of Veterinary Post Graduate Studies.

I originally joined Vets4Pets when Paul first opened the practice and then went on to work in a referral hospital before re-joining Paul and his team in February 2015.

Student Veterinary Nurse

I started at Vets4Pets in July 2017 and am excited to train as a Student Veterinary Nurse. I have always loved animals and have a button Staffie called Sonny who was a rescue from the RSPCA.

Whilst travelling in Australia, I came across many wonderful and exotic animals but I also completed a three month placement on a farm where I maintained the working dogs and horses and even helped raise four chicks. I also assisted with drenching and pregnancy testing cattle which is an experience I will never forget!

Since joining Vets4Pets, I have already learned so many new things and I am looking forward to progressing and eventually qualifying as a Registered Veterinary Nurse!
