Meet the Paisley Phoenix vet team

Paisley Pheonix Vets4Pets Alemu Shewakena

Alemu Shewakena MRCVS

Owner & Veterinary Surgeon

Since graduating in 1996 I have worked all over the UK, mainly in Wales, West Yorkshire and the Glasgow area. I started my career in mixed practice treating cattle, sheep, horses, cats and dogs, before moving to a large veterinary referral hospital in Leeds. I have a passion for excellent animal care and customer service which I look forward to bringing to Companion Care Linwood. When I am not working I enjoy spending time with my family and days out in the Scottish countryside!

Julian Beazley BVM&S MRCVS

Veterinary Surgeon

Since qualifying from the Royal (Dick) School of Veterinary Studies in Edinburgh in 2001, I practiced initially as a mixed animal vet in the London suburbs, then as a solely small animal vet when I moved to Glasgow in 2007. I have 2 rescued cats, Ocelot aged 12 and Erik aged 2 who rule my flat. I enjoys maintaining and driving my old VW Golfs, getting out into the Highlands for some walking and camping, socialising and travelling.

Tess Walker MA VetMB MRCVS

Veterinary Surgeon

I am originally from London but I graduated from Cambridge University in 2012. I have enjoyed being a vet ever since. I did some travelling immediately after graduating and worked at a rescue clinic in India for 5 weeks before heading to Australia to work on a Cattle ranch for a further 5 weeks. On my return to the UK, I worked in mixed practice for 3 years before realising that my passion lay with companion animals. I’ve been at vets4pets for nearly 2 years and I am loving it. I really enjoy running our Facebook page and I have developed an interest in animal behaviour. When I am not in work, I enjoy crafting, hiking and travelling. At home I have a beautiful, yellow Budgie called Brucie who doesn’t give me a minute peace, but I love him!

Anne Kerr

Veterinary Care Assistant

I have been working in the veterinary world since 2005 and joined the Linwood team in 2013 as a veterinary care assistant. I have a love for dogs, particularly big dogs and my Staffordshire Bull Terrier Xander who is very friendly and a bit mad. On my days off I love to spend time with my sister and daughter out for meals and going to concerts. In the future I would like to open my own kennels as a pet boarding business and rescue.

Hayley Ainslie

Head Receptionist/Animal Nursing Assistant

I am a qualified animal nursing assistant currently working as a receptionist during the week and as a nursing assistant at the weekends. I have a love for the outdoors and can often be found hill walking with friends on my days off photographing the countryside.
I am the practice crazy cat lady with a love for our feline friends and hope to focus my future training around them.

Registered Veterinary Nurse

I graduated from Edinburgh Napier University in 2015 with a degree in Veterinary Nursing. I am trained in small animal care however I have a passion for exotics and would like to specialise in the future. I have worked in the Linwood practice since 2012 from student to qualified nurse and was ecstatic when Alemu offered me a permanent position.

I am a trained Clinical Coach which means I help train veterinary nursing students in practice. Outside of work I love to travel and I have three house bunnies, Buffy, Ozzy and Maggie. I also have a Corn snake, Ivan.

Registered Veterinary Nurse

I have been at Linwood Vets4Pets since April 2016. Later in the year, I graduated from SRUC Barony Campus with an HND in Veterinary Nursing. I am a trained Clinical Coach which means that I can help to teach any vet nurse students we have with us on placement. Outside of work, I enjoy travelling, horse riding and playing rugby. I have a Highland Pony called Ben who always loves to be covered in mud. Both Ben and I are from Oban, but we moved down to the Helensburgh area in 2006.

Student Veterinary Nurse

I joined Vets4Pets as a receptionist in 2015 and a year later I started a veterinary nursing course with the College of Animal Welfare, training at the practice.

I hope to qualify in 2018 and perhaps pursue further training in small animal medical nursing. At home I have a rabbit named Thor and adopted my other rabbit Gimli through the practice.
