Meet the team
I am the Senior Veterinary Surgeon and proud owner of our Veterinary Practice. I have a passion for advanced soft tissue surgery, dentistry and endocrinology. I love handling complex medical cases, including emergencies and I take great joy in treating birds too!
My wife and I, beyond our professional lives, have devoted ourselves to our two wonderful children, who keep us very busy! We also have a dog and two cats. I am an adventurer at heart and enjoy exploring nature. I love engaging in bushcraft, hiking, freediving, horse riding, sailing and visual astronomy.
Freya
Veterinary Surgeon
I am a recently graduated Veterinary surgeon and I work here at Somercotes Vets for Pets as a part of Veterinary graduate development programme, with Krzysztof as my Mentor. I gained my qualifications in Zagreb, Croatia in August 2023. and I have decided to try and challenge myself with working outside of my country and I joined this great group of people in March 2024. I have interests in Small animal internal medicine and cardiology.
I’ve been working here at Somercotes as an RVN since opening in March 2016 and became a partner of the practice with Krzysztof in August of the same year. I have been a Veterinary Nurse for just over 20yrs. I started my journey in Barry, South Wales and moved to Derbyshire 14yrs ago. I live at home with my husband and 2 boys. Having 5 dogs and 2 Guinea pigs keeps us all busy. Over the last 7yrs we have also built up our own small flock of Derbyshire Gritstone and Dutch Spotted sheep (who knew sheep love Hobnobs and digestive biccies!) I love being outside and the sheep certainly keeps us busy. I have a keen interest in diagnostic imaging and carrying out schedule 3 procedures such as collecting blood samples, wound closures, and lump removals.
I have been in practice for over 15 years. I trained in a Veterinary Hospital before moving to live and work on Anglesey North Wales. I moved back to Derbyshire 8 years ago and have been part of the Somercotes team since April 2019 and I predominantly work as a theatre and surgical nurse here. I am a fully qualified Veterinary Physiotherapist with a special interest in post-surgical rehabilitation and osteoarthritis. Here at Somercotes I am also a clinical coach, training one of our student nurses and helping her on her journey to gaining her qualifications.
Outside of work, I like spending time with family, walking, travelling and caring for my horses, dog and guinea pig. I am a busy bee and also run a small animal pet boarding hotel, help out at an out of hours vet providing emergency and critical care to sick and injured pets, as well as doing mobile physiotherapy for dogs and horses.
I have been with the Somercotes team since 2019 when I qualified from Bottle Green Training as an RVN. I have a keen interest in behaviour and offer support to clients and the rest of the veterinary team, in providing and planning low stress treatment. I also enjoy anaesthesia, exotic patient care, pain management and love a busy surgery day. I am our neurodivergence support nurse in practice and can help with providing accessible visits for our neurodiverse clients.
I live with my partner, two children, our labrador Ned, Kevin the cat, and Greg and James the guinea pigs.
I am one of the student nurses here at Somercotes VetsForPets. I am currently in my second year at college, attending once a week at Bottle Green training. I have been at the practice since September 2019. I started on reception initially and was then offered a position within the clinical team. I took on an animal care level 2 course at Bottle Green Training before applying to go on to the level 3 nursing course. I love the variety of our workload. Everyday is different and we have an amazing team who I enjoy learning from
I started nursing in 2016 and gained my Veterinary Care Assistant qualification in 2017. I have worked at various practices and started here at Somercotes in February 2024, where I am now very happy. I started my college course in September 2024 where I am currently studying towards my Veterinary Nurse qualification. My favourite part of the job is prep and surgical nursing.
I have a dog and 4 cats.
I have been here at Somercotes since we first opened in March 2016. I started as a Client Care Advisor and worked my way up to Senior Client Care Advisor. In June 2022, I was promoted to Practice Manager. I thoroughly enjoy my job and have a fantastic team around me. Every day there is something different and always something new to challenge me. We have some wonderful clients and pets here at Somercotes, some I have come to know very well over my many years here.
I live with my husband and we have a cat named Beryl. She was found abandoned in a bin and brought in to us at the practice. We fell in love with her and the rest is history. Out of work, I enjoy walking, travelling, reading and spending time with my husband, friends and family.
I joined the Vets for Pets Somercotes team in March 2024 having never worked in the veterinary profession before. I fancied a career change and have a genuine love of animals. i therefore, pursed a career within the veterinary profession. Previously I have worked in dentistry, education and the funeral profession.
I am a farmer’s daughter and an avid pet lover, but my absolute favourite animals are cats. So much so, that I have given numerous rescued cats a loving home over the years. I currently have a cat called Tux, (now 4 years old), who I gave a home to at 6 months old when he was found as a stray cat.
I am very much enjoying my career move and have gained so much knowledge from the fabulous team during my employment here. I hope to gain much more over the years.
In my spare time, I enjoy coarse and carp fishing, spending time with family, friends, and my cat Tux, travelling, gardening and walks in the countryside.
Vets for Pets Somercotes is committed to bringing you affordable, high quality care via a modern, well equipped practice, including a lab, pharmacy, digital x-ray, dental x-ray and ultrasound. Plus, on site car parking too!
