Advanced services
We have invested considerably in our team and kit to make a number of advanced services available to our clients. We also accept referrals from other practices.
Orthopaedics and fracture repair
Our veterinary team have undertaken advanced training to allow us to perform orthopaedic surgery in our practice. If your pet develops an abnormality involving their skeleton or joints, such as elbow dysplasia, a patella (kneecap) that gets stuck, or a torn cruciate ligament, an orthopaedic procedure may help them.
Ultrasound
We are pleased to be able to offer ultrasound scanning in practice, which is a painless way to look inside your pet’s body to find out what’s going on.

Physiotherapy
Problems involving the musculoskeletal, nervous systems and balance can be helped by physiotherapy. It can also aid in recovery from injury or surgery and with pain management. At Vets4Pets, we can arrange for physiotherapy to be part of your pet’s multi-modal treatment plan.

Laser therapy
Laser therapy is non-painful and involves directing infra-red radiation into inflamed or damaged tissues to accelerate the body’s natural healing process. It is often used for musculoskeletal issues such as arthritis, but the benefits of laser have been suggested for a range of conditions.

Dr Emma Havard
Practice Owner & Veterinary Surgeon
BVetMed Cert AVP (GSAS) Pg Cert VPS MRCVS
RCVS Recognised Advanced Practitioner in General Small Animal Surgery (Soft tissue and Orthopaedics) Emma qualified from the RVC London in 2003 and worked in a large practice group in Berkshire until her move to Wales in 2009. Here she joined a local practice as Clinical Director and Clinical Coach until 2015 when she moved into a Principle Vet role for a busy emergency and critical care provider. She achieved her advanced surgical certificate in 2015 and her Certificate in Veterinary Professional Studies in 2016, the same year she was accepted onto the RCVS Advanced Practitioner list as a general surgeon. She enjoys all aspects of surgery but particularly different methods of canine cruciate repair, difficult fractures and BOAS surgery.
Emma lives at home with her husband, four children, six cats (!) and 2 guinea pigs.

Mia qualified from the University of Veterinary Medicine of Bucharest, Romania in 2018, after visiting Wales she decided to come back and settle here. She took a rather bold step starting her first job working as a farm animal vet in Carmarthen.
In Romania, she dedicated her time to the profession from the age of 10, watching vets in her time off from school, and gaining experience in various small animal practices. She has taken in hundreds of stray animals throughout her life, including wildlife, also her family offered her much support with this including changing animals welfare laws in Romania.
She also volunteered for many animals in shelters or people in need. She has experience in breeding & showing Weimaraners for over 10 years, at a high welfare status ensuring the breed standard is kept as good quality, watching closely their genetic health, temperaments and breeding the best candidates of their breed. She also wrote a book on the subject of the ethical breeding, starting and growing a kennel. Here she joined us to follow her dream of working as a small animal vet, as she enjoys all aspects of the soft tissue surgery, canine reproduction, and is looking forward to developing her skills in surgery, imaging and ophthalmology. Mia lives at home with her busy toddler and partner, helping him in her spare time with running their farm, where they are enjoying their cows, 7 dogs, 5 cats and probably too many chickens.

Kimberley qualified from Bridgend as a registered veterinary nurse in 2013 where she was working in a large veterinary hospital in Bridgend. She then spent a year and a half working nights in an out of hours emergency and critical care practice, before taking up the head nurse role at Cross Hands. Kimberley is our clinical coach who trains our student nurses . She enjoys all aspects of nursing particularly surgery, anaesthesia, wound management and clinics and she is planning to start a certificate in 2022! Kimberley is kept busy with her border collie named Finn, her lovely new baby son Noah and her husband. She loves to travel and doesn’t need any excuse to explore somewhere new, preferably with some sun!

Miss Jessica Jones
Deputy Head Registered Veterinary nurse
RVN ISFM Cert FN
Jessica completed her diploma in Veterinary Nursing at Abbeydale vet link, qualifying at her first attempt in January 2019! Jess lives in Swansea with 3 dogs and 2 cats who keep her busy at home. She is our practice's Cat Advocate and ensures cat friendly standards are adhered to. Having done a wonderful job of keeping us all in line as acting head nurse during Kim's maternity leave she is continuing in her promoted role as deputy head nurse.
Jessica has just completed her feline nursing course with the ISFM- a one year intensive course on all aspects oof feline care in practice. She passed this with distinction- so you can be assured your feline friends are in excellent hands whilst in our care.

Bex is originally from America but has lived in the UK for many years. After a long spell in marketing at a large local company she realised her passion for animals and joined a Swansea veterinary group as a receptionist. From there she worked her way up to Animal care assistant and took her ANA qualification in 2016. From here she was accepted onto the veterinary nursing degree course at the University of South Wales and finally after a few COVID delays she passed her nursing exams in September 2020. Bex now joins our team of registered nurses here at Cross Hands. She lives in Swansea with her husband and mad Jug, Frank Junior! Bex enjoys all aspects of veterinary nursing.

Shelley has been in the veterinary industry on and off since 2000; she is a qualified Veterinary Care Assistant and is certified in canine behaviour.🦮🐕
Along with her husband, Shelley lives on a small holding with rescue dogs, cats🐱, chickens,🐥 ducks🦆, turkeys and guinea fowl so we are never lacking free range eggs.
Shelley’s work with rescue animals doesn’t end there; she also helps run Nico’s Legacy, which is a local not for profit rescue.
It comes as no surprise that Shelley has been a vegan for 7 years so naturally she keeps our spirits high with delicious vegan treats🧁🍪, although you’d never guess with how tasty they are.😋
Having been on reception for a number of years and working as our finance manager, she has decided it is time for a change of direction and is going back to her roots as a veterinary care assistant from March 2025.

Lauren, our animal care assistant, joined us in July 2021. She completed her GCSE exams in 2020 and obtained her Level 2 Animal Care Apprenticeship whilst working with us in 2021/22.
Having had rabbits as pets, Lauren became interested in a career with animals.
Lauren started her veterinary nursing training in September 2023, working towards her diploma in veterinary nursing.

A veteran of 18 years in the veterinary industry Rhian has worked in multiple practices across South Wales, mainly in the Swansea area.
She enjoyes all aspects of the job, in particular consulting, meeting the animals and their humans. As a confessed cat lady she also has an interest in feline behaviour.
In her spare time she loves spending time with friends, family and the significant other (and her cats).

Holly joined us as a new ACA in January 2023.
Holly completed her Level 3 Advanced Technical Extended Diploma in Animal Management in 2022 🐾
She has moved house a total of 11 times (so far) and enjoys new experiences and learning opportunities, as well as meeting new people along the way. In fact, Holly is the third generation of her family to live in a house and not on canal boats 🚤
Holly is in fact a crazy guinea pig lady and fell in love with them when she rescued her first guinea pig called Ellie in 2010 💕 She also has a Jack-a-doodle called Bear 🐻
Holly adores her family which consists of her little brother, her mum and her dad, who have supported her all the way throughout her journey to work with animals 🐩

Susan started in our customer care team in 2019. She has a distinguished customer service background, having held managerial roles with some large firms.
She has been promoted in July 2003 to reception manager- customer service.
Her experience brings a level of calmness to a sometimes chaotic waiting room!
A Welsh speaker🏴, Susan has lived locally her whole life so knows the area inside out; handy for our further-afield clients should anyone need a hand with directions.↖️➡️

Kevin has been with us since March 2021. 📅
As you may have guessed Kevin has a keen interest in animals, exotics to be exact; in fact he has a level 4 in herpetology🦎 (that’s study of amphibians and reptiles to save you the google)
In addition to marine fish🐠 and corals Kevin’s other roommates include two snakes🐍, four leopard geckos and a terrapin. 🐢
Along with his passion for exotics Kevin is also a professional video gamer, 🎮has a foundation degree in Animal Science and is currently studying for a diploma in ocean conservation.🐬🐟
An amazingly resilient young man, Kevin has overcome severe health issues having had more than one kidney transplant. 😲😲
His obstacles and how he’s overcome them bring a bright spark to our team.
In Feb 2022 Kevin briefly moved from his role as a client care adviser to a veterinary nursing assistant , sadly due to a period of ill health he took some extended leave but we are very pleased to have him back on the team, where he has re-joined the reception staff on a part time basis. . 🥰

Annie joined us CCA in March 2022.
Annie adores animals and has worked with them for over 20 years including working in a Falconry centre and zoo and managing a sports horse yard where she assisted in training and creating fitness programmes for the horses and of course the best part of the job of riding them and taking them to competitions. She also looked after a small holding with her mum of all kinds of rescue animals from guinea pigs and rabbits, chickens and ferrets to goats and horses.
She has rescued quite a few cats, dogs and horses over the years and currently owns a fun, loving, crazy Huntaway cross Collie called Duke.
In her spare time Annie loves swimming, horse riding and hiking. She loves to take part in anything adrenaline filled and challenging. She is a mother of two, with her second child born in 2023, so is kept very busy outside of work.

Animal lover Chloe has joined us to help with our every increasing load of insurance claims as well as becoming part of the client care advisor team. She has a degree in business management and finance. She lives locally with her partner, young baby and her pet rabbit. She also loves dogs and hopes to own one in the near future when time allows!
