Meet the Mapperley vet team

Liz Stockham
BVSc Cert SAS MRCVS

Veterinary Surgeon & Joint Venture Partner

Liz has over 25 years’ experience, she has worked in small animal practices in the UK, Hong Kong and Australia after qualifying at Bristol University in 1990. She has a Certificate in Small Animal Surgery, is recognised and has a keen interest in challenging surgical cases.

 

Liz enjoys going rock climbing, running marathons and is a qualified Scuba Diving Instructor. She has two cats named Ellie and Popcorn.

Erika Vernia

DVM MRCVS

Senior Veterinary Surgeon

Erika Vernia is our Senior Veterinary Surgeon. She graduated in 2005 from Milan University. Erika has a special interest in feline medicine, especially treating and caring for senior cats. She also enjoys neurology and ear, nose and throat medicine.

 

In her spare time Erika enjoys studying Japanese language and culture. She also enjoys cooking delicious meals with her husband, especially traditional Italian and Japanese food!

Jen Dykes
BVSc MRCVS

Veterinary Surgeon

Jen graduated from Liverpool University in 2011 and joined us in June 2015. She has a keen interest in soft tissue surgery and ophthalmology. Jen enjoys sports, music and baking in her spare time.

She also spends a lot of time walking her Hungarian Viszla Murphy with her husband!

Alex Ecob

BVM BVS BVMedSci MRCVS

Veterinary Surgeon

Alex graduated from The University of Nottingham and lives locally in Nottingham. She has a golden retriever named Fudge and a very naughty cat called Billy who came in to us as a stray! She has a special interest in internal medicine cases and enjoys riding horses and going out for dinner in her free time.

Kerry Pidcock-Matkin

Head Nurse RVN and Practice Manager

Kerry joined us as our new Head Nurse in October 2016 and has been nursing for 16 years. She has a little boy aged 6 called Max. She has a dog called Oscar, and two rescue animals that came in as strays to our practice – a kitten called Terry and a Tortoise called Richard! In Kerry's spare time she does a lot of voluntary work on farms, and goes clay Pigeon shooting. Her biggest weakness is German Shepherds, she loves them! Kerry has a certificate in ‘Wound Management’ and is currently doing an ‘Emergency and Critical Care Certificate’. Kerry is also a clinical coach and is currently helping our student veterinary nurse Emma through her training.

Fiona Cook RVN

Veterinary Nurse

Fee has been nursing for eleven years. She qualified as a veterinary nurse in January 2013 and is currently preparing to do her certificate in veterinary dermatology in 2018. She loves all aspects of her job, especially dermatology, parasitology, exotic animals and caring for senior patients. We love the golden oldies!

She owns an array of pets including three cats; Maxxie, Murphy and Sid Vicious, a lurcher called Archie, a Horsfield tortoise called Henry, a duck called Debby, three Giant African Land Snails called Sir Davos, Jorah an Khalessi, Siamese Fighting Fish and various shrimp and water snails.



In her spare time, Fee hand-rears, rehabilitates and releases hedgehogs and wild birds; it's something she's always been passionate about and is happy to educate clients on how to encourage wildlife into their gardens.

She also loves cross stitching, spending time outdoors with her dog, photography, yoga, sushi, watching films and going to live music and stand-up comedy gigs.

Jane Wilson RVN

Veterinary Nurse

Jane qualified from Nottingham Trent University in 2011 and joined us in 2008 to complete her training and has been with us ever since. Jane enjoys consulting and meeting our patients and their owners!

She enjoys crafts, baking, gardening and looking after her pets in her spare time. She has a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel named Dan; two cats, Pebbles and Paris and two budgerigars!

Emma Hultum BSc Hons and SVN

Veterinary Nurse

Emma has almost completed her veterinary nurse training and has been with nursing since 2015. Emma has a bachelor’s degree in Biology from The University of Manchester and has completed her ‘ISFM certificate in feline nursing’. She has a keen interest in feline nursing and also enjoys hedgehog rescue and rehabilitation. Emma enjoys nursing in-patients, with a particular love of senior and geriatric cats!

 

In Emma’s spare time she enjoys reading, rescuing and rehoming animals and spending time with her boyfriend, friends and family. She also likes to travel and meet the local animals! She has rescue cats; a ten-year-old cat called Sophie, a cat called Jasmine with no ears and a diabetic seventeen-year-old cat named Flumpy!

Beth Regan (SVN)

Veterinary Nurse

Beth joined us in September 2018 and will begin her veterinary nurse training in 2019. Beth previously worked as a zoo keeper at Chester Zoo, caring for a variety of birds, including penguins! Beth has a bearded dragon called Duncan and two cats called Apollo and Onyx. Beth enjoys wildlife rehabilitation and is currently hand-rearing two hedgehogs.

Michelle Boyle (RVN)

Veterinary Nurse

Michelle joined us in December 2018 after previously working elsewhere. Michelle qualified in 2015 and enjoys working with reptiles. Michelle has three cats called Snowflake, Sebastien and Willow and a lizard at home. Michelle also has a little boy!

Candy Bainbridge

Head Receptionist

Candy joined us in November 2010 and has gained an NVQ Level 3 in Business Management with the practice. She enjoys working at Vets4Pets because of the lovely clients and their pets and the opportunity to keep learning. She has a 1 year old daughter called Lyra.

In her spare time, she likes to go to local music gigs, art galleries and holidays with her family and dog. She has a dog called Parker and a cat called Capone.

Mel Kelleher

Receptionist

Mel joined us in November 2011 after working for 27 years in banking. She enjoys working at Vets4Pets because of the friendly clients and banter with her work colleagues.

In her spare time, she enjoys eating out, going to the theatre, going on summer holidays and watching tennis and football. She has 3 rescue cats – Joey and Street who are both ginger boys, and a black kitten that came in to us as a stray, called Princess Pea!

Paula Newbold

Receptionist

Paula joined us in December 2012 after working as a PA in the fashion industry. She enjoys working at Vets4Pets because of the lovely interaction with clients, their pets and the team.

She enjoys socialising, walks in the countryside, keeping fit and travelling in her spare time. She has a cat named Cecilia.

Vanessa Knight

Receptionist

Vanessa joined us in July 2017 after working as a Pharmacy Advisor at a local chemist. In her spare time Vanessa enjoys keeping fit, horse riding & meeting up with friends. She has a love of animals, especially horses, and has two rescue cats Xena & Tinks.

Louise Stanley

Receptionist

Louise joined us in Feb 2018 after working in the NHS for 26 years. Louise enjoys meeting clients and their lovely pets. She has two basset hounds named Purdey and Fred, and a cat called Poppy who Louise rescued after she came to us as a stray!
